Having super-short, very sparse lashes which frame otherwise large eyes, I am extremely picky with my mascara. I've tried all sorts from high-end (diorshow, benefit bad gal lash) to just about every drugstore product in existence. And I have to say, I loved this mascara. It thickened, separated, and lengthened my lashes an amazing amount, without clumps or smudging. I could keep using this mascara for years and never want for anything.
However. This mascara was created, of course, as competition for covergirl's lashblast, and as competition, I have to say that I tend to lean towards the covergirl. Th'colossal, though it gives incredible volume, falls a little short on length in comparison to the lashblast, and the packaging looks a bit cheap.
Many people find the smell of this mascara to be a bit off-putting; I didn't mind it at all, though it was admittedly unusual. Additionally, I found that this mascara dried out a lot faster then many others I'd tried; I usually replace my mascara every three months or so, and I found that by that time, the formula was starting to clump together.
Ultimately, this is a great mascara, and I prefer it to just about all of the high end brands I've used, but I would still recommend the lash blast over the maybelline option.
I have been a "make up snob" for most of my adult life and only purchased make up from high end lines in department stores. My mascara of choice has been Lancome' Definicils however after being laid off from my job in March I have decided that living indoors and eating take precedents over expensive make up! I have been testing out some drugstore brand to find one that will work for me and my budget. I was quite surprised to find that I really like Maybelline Colossal Mascara. It made my lashes fuller and did lengthen them significantly. I am a contact lens wearer so I had always purchased the hypo allergenic types but I did not have any issues using this. I am happy to say that even unemployed chicks can look great!
I am very on the edge about this product. It works just as they say it will. Plump eye lashes and all, HOWEVER! I hate the brush that came with this. The first week, the top came unglued and I am constantly having to shove it back together. And the brush gets really caked with mascara. It is cheaper than most mascaras though!
This works sooooo great! It really made my eyelashes plump up more, and lasted for a long time without getting clumpy. Maybelline makes great mascaras in general, but I would definitely recommend this one in particular.
The value for your dollar is great, even though it is more expensive than some other mascaras. Well worth it though!
Give it a shot...especially for a night out. (Not recommended for 'natural beauty' looks though....this is glam style!)
I was curious about this mascara, because I have seen so many reviews about this mascara on Youtube.
I have asian eyelashes ( short and grow straight down). I usually wear black eyeliner to define my eyes but I wanted to try something different for summer, not so thick. So I am on the hunt for a thickening mascara.
I want my lashes to be thick and not long.
I tried this mascara and I right away noticed that I had to keep on building up to achieve what I wanted, I found it too clumpy and the brush is way to big for my asian eyelashes. The smell is also annoying. it kind of reminds me of ....when you puncture your pen and it leaks, it smells like the ink.
I will not buy this again.
I have always been curious to try this mascara since it's ranked highly next to CoverGirl's LashBlast Mascara (which I have used in the past).
It's a decent mascara but the formula tends to clump and the brush bristles are quite soft so you have to be careful when you apply it (can't use too heavy of a hand). The formula has a distinct floral-like scent which I didn't find offensive but it is definitely noticeable.
It did a good job at extending my lashes but I didn't find it added a lot of volume and the formula tends to clump more than other mascaras I've tried. This mascara is pretty good but I still prefer CoverGirl's LashBlast.
I've been curious about this product for some time, and after reading everyone's feedback first was a little hesitant going in. Flaking? Smelly? Doesn't work?
Skeptic that I was, I was very pleasantly surprised by Colossal Volum'. It gave me the fullness I was looking for with a hint of length and stayed put as well or better than most other mascaras I've tried.
The scent is different from other products and I can certainly see how it's not for everyone. If you're sensitive to strong product fragrance, this may not be for you; however the smell dissipates fairly quickly once the mascara dries and you're left with soft, full lashes - exactly what I wanted.
I have been loving CoverGirl's Lash Exact for a while now, and having run out of it was about to buy more when I received the Colossal to review. I'm happy to use this instead, although for now the love affair with Lash Exact is still on.
I've recently bought a tube of this mascara and it is definitely a great price, but you get what you pay for! I have never used a mascara that clumps this much!! Although I must admit that the clumping did stop after I got used to it but WOW it's hard to forget how bad it was at first! It does add a fair bit of volume but I wish it lasted longer! I feel like I have to reapply and I would much rather spend a bit more and have a mascara that I can swipe on in the morning and forget it!
I'm on the fence with this one. It's definitely way cheaper than the Diorshow mascara I use now, and adds around the same length to my lashes. The only problem is that it easily clumps up, and little tiny flakes of mascara tend to come off and sit around my eyes. I'd say it's pretty average, and I would probably repurchase if I'm low on cash and don't want to spend on something expensive.
