I received a Maybelline New York Dream Blender for free to try out and review as part of the Chick Advisor product review club. I was not a huge fan of the dream blender. I think the reasoning I had issues with it is because I normally use a flat sponge type applicator to apply my foundation so it took some practice to figure out how to apply it properly with the dream blender. Once I got the hang of it, I found it worked okay. I probably won't purchase this again, just because I am more comfortable using a flat sponge or my fingers to apply foundation, however I would still recommend this to friends who are comfortable with a rounded applicator.
Ugh, I had my fingers crossed that this would somehow be a magical drug store makeup sponge. I love that there's a stick for a base that you can use to hold it as your using but also it does stand, so when your not using it or it's drying it's not sitting somewhere getting all gross. Problem is this is terrible, wet or dry it really doesn't work pretty much at all. Most sponges you can deal with it if you don't like it, not this one. It soaked up a lot of the product and it's just so hard against your face cause the sponge is so dense, it really doesn't blend the foundation. It's truly useless.. :(

I kind of hate this beauty sponge - the concept was good and I do enjoy that the sponge has a handle which makes use fairly easy. However, this thing is too small, too firm and doesn't actually seem to absorb any water so, therefore, does not expand at all. I attempted using it as per the directions, going in circles to blend the foundation, but it just didn't seem even. Not for me.
Please note that I was graciously given this product to try as part of the Product Review Club.
The blender is ok. I like using it damp as opposed to dry. I dot foundation on my face first and use it to blend. I find that too much product gets absorbed if I apply foundation to the sponge directly. Rather than rubbing it into my face, I use the sponge to bounce it along my skin. I was hoping this would work as well as the Beauty Blender, but it does not. However, this sponge was great at applying foundation around my eyes and nose because of the pointed tip.
I tried this to apply the dream foundation and found that it provided about the same coverage as using my fingers so I'm not sure if I would purchase this in the future as I didn't find that it really made much of a difference. I did find that I liked it more for blended out my concealer and I think that is more likely what I'll use it for in the future.

I was really impressed with how well the Dream Blender worked! I know how difficult it is to blend in foundation around the corner of the eyes, and eyebrows. The Dream Blender made it so easy and effective. The tip got in close to the eye, and around the eyebrows with no problem. It helped to blend the foundation easier than using your finger. I'll be using this every time I use foundation!
I was really excited to try the Dream Blender with the Dream Velvet foundation I received, but was actually a little disappointed with it. The packaging says to use it either dry or damp, and the first time, I used it dry. It works extremely well for a drugstore sponge, however it's a little hard to blend evenly using the dry sponge. That said I also used it for contouring with a powder and it worked extremely well in that area. For my second try, I decided to go with their "pro tip" and use the sponge wet. As I'd already used it once, I cleaned it using a solid sponge cleanser. Here's where I began to doubt the product. First, it's extremely awkward to wash - the sponge does not absorb water on it's own, and needs to be repeatedly squeezed to even absorb enough to wash. Next I realized that the rounded bit actually has a sponge stem that extends into the handle, so you can only wash with the point down to avoid runoff into the handle. The stem also isn't easily reached, washed, or dried, so I can see this ending up with a damp smell at least, mold at worst. Overall, I'm really happy with the way it blends powder products, and will use it for contouring and the like, however as a foundation sponge, I don't think it's something I'll reach for.

I really wanted to like the Dream Blender. My preferred method of foundation application is with the Real Technqiues Miracle Sponge, but the former is not very comparable to it. It's a smaller, firmer sponge on a wand, which doesn't become softer with or without water. At first I tried using it like the Miracle Sponge by dabbing it on my face, but that wasn't very effective and ended up kind of hurting! I then followed the instructions of moving it in circles on my cheeks and moving outward on other parts of the face. The results were a bit better, but nowhere near as preferable as what I receive from the Miracle Sponge. I also found it took a lot longer to blend.
I probably could make the Dream Blender work, but it just takes too much time and is too small, in my opinion. I much prefer the softer, larger RT Miracle Sponge. I do like that the Dream Blender has a wand and is pointed to get into smaller areas, but it just didn't work for me.
I received the Maybelline New York Dream Blender for free as part of the ChickAdvisor Product Review club.. and I have to say it is AMAZING! I usually use my fingers to apply my makeup, but this applicator has changed that for the better! I will definitely purchase again and will be recommending it to friends. I love that it is easily washable to use with other products/shades. It applies foundation evenly, leaving your skin looking flawless. As you can see it my before and after photo of foundation application, using the applicator really does wonders!
I use other beauty blenders on a regular basis but what i love about maybelline new york blender is the perfect sized handle, this eliminate the big problem i had previously of the foundation ending up on my nails and finger tips by the time am done blending my foundation, i definitely recommend this product.
