I received Taupe Temptress (a palette of warm pinks and greys), and Spirited Seas (blues, peach and a bronze). I normally don't do quads, and I normally don't do blue shadows, but it was fun to receive these because I was able to experiment a bit.
First of all, as pretty as these colours are, you REALLY need a primer to make them last. With a primer, the colour stays forever and doesn't crease at all. Without, it gets all blotchy and disappears within a couple of hours.
Secondly, I wouldn't call these high pigment eye shadows. You can certainly layer the colour for more impact, but I find that they have a more sheer application. The shadows blend beautifully, though, so it creates a really pretty and subtle finish, which makes the shadows really good for daytime wear.
Third, though the colours are all very lovely, I'm not sure how they're supposed to work all together. I'm not a huge fan of eyeshadow quads, but some brands are more clear than others about how the colours are supposed to work together. Such is not the case here. In fact, they just seem too dark, like the ultimate effect would be too muddy. But separately, or in pairs, they work beautifully.
With Taupe Temptress, I found that the pinks really brought out my eye colour (blue), and I loved the grey - it gave me a cool, punky smoky eye that was still suitable for work.
Spirited Seas has two blues - one is a shimmery, light turquoise and the other is almost a navy. I never wear blue eyeshadow, but I gave both colours a shot. I wore the turquoise on my lids with the light peach on the brow bone and got tons of compliments. I found that the darker blue produced another pretty and subtle smoky eye that I really liked. I haven't had a chance to try the bronze.
All in all, I think these are fun little palettes, and the price is decent. But invest in a primer.
The colours I received (courtesy of Chick Advisor) were Sapphire Siren and Sunset Seduction. I must say the pay off was good and I loved using the black eyeshadow in place of my eyeliner for my top lids. I'm not so much of a dramatic person, so I used the colours to make a subtle but cute/flirty look. The sapphire siren I also used in place for my eyeliner so it looked playful to have colouful "eyeliner/shadows". The white eyeshadow is glittery and sparkly so it's super cute to make your eyes pop! I've been using these colours instead of my eyeliner just to play with these colours and in attempt to create a different style for myself.
I would love to try other colours from the Maybelline New York Eye Studio Eyeshadow Quad and would definitely recommend it to all make up lovers (Especially Sapphire Siren!)
I received 2 palettes as part of the product review club, number 10 - mad for mauve and number 80 - pink persuasion.
i tried both the pallets on days i was going to work. the quads provide lots of option, so you can use all the colours or just one. i tried all the clours and the pigments are very nice. some of the lighter pinks/silvers didn't show up really well, but had a nice subtle effect.
the colours don't have much staying power. i didn't apply any eyeshadow primer, but i do apply my foundation over my eye (which would work about the same), however the shadows only lasted until about lunch time.
i think these colours would be great for an evening or night out since they are shimmery/sparkle and you can go all out with the darker colours that come in the palette.
I received two quads, “Purple Icon” and “Give me Gold” on Monday as a member of the Product Review Club, and wanted to use them in different situations before reviewing. The information below was the same for both palettes.
I tried each palette for work and for going out on the weekend, and found these shadows are very versatile. The colours layer pretty well, so you can keep it subtle during the day and dial it up a notch at night. The high pigmentation also means you do not have to use a lot of shadow to achieve the look you want.
As I mentioned, I tried the shadows both for daytime and night time looks. I also tried them with and without eye shadow primer (Urban Decay’s).
For work, I used two colours to create a daytime look, and did not use too much…enough to see some colour, but not overpowering (I work in an office environment). Without using the primer, I found that while the eye shadow did not crease, it did fade, and I did not have much left come the end of the day. When I used primer, I found the colour lasted throughout the day.
For going out this weekend, I used all four colours to create a more dramatic look. I found that when I used more shadow (more colours and more layers to create a darker colour), it did not fare as well without wearing primer. After a few hours, the shadow creased and the colour faded. However, when I used the primer, it performed much better, and lasted as long as I needed it to.
Of the two palettes, the “Purple Icon” was my favourite. “Give me Gold” was nice, but I found the yellow and orange-y undertones did not match well with my skin. Also, it would be good if it came with a little guide as to wear to apply each colour (as some eye shadow quads come with).
Overall, I think this is a great shadow and would recommend it to my friends. It’s not perfect, but it’s as good a shadow as I’ve ever found. I will definitely buy again, and look forward to trying the other colours.
Forgot to mention one thing - don't be thrown off by the glittery look of the shadow...the shimmer is a lot more subtle than it appears it would be.
I was sent the 'Give me Gold' and 'Purple Icon' Maybelline New York Eye Studio Eyeshadow Quad Palettes. First of all, I would like to say I enjoyed using the product and it works well but for the price of $9.99 for the small container I would probably lean toward the more known products like Mac eyeshadow which has been around for a while and is known to be good quality. The shadow colours compliment each other and work well together. The different colours in the palette are blend able and easy to apply however I found they did not last very long. The pigment of the shadows is average and I found that the colour was more noticeable when being applied with a sponge applicator rather then the brush. I did not like the shimmer factor of a couple shades because in some cases it overpowered the colour. I would not recommended this shadow for older women because the glitter and shimmer gives off a young feel that could be perceived as 'too young' looking for an average woman.
Overall I would say the product was good quality and I enjoyed using it but I am not sure that I would spend the money to purchase them myself. I just want to add that the look these shadows create would be more in the direction of subtle or romantic, because they are not bright/bold enough to be dramatic. The look is definitely noticeable but it isn't something overbearing. It will successfully compliment your look without being the center point. - Caitlin
I mostly lean towards Mac or Clinique eye shadows because they give me exactly what I want and are of higher quality than the leading drug store brands, but am always willing to try new things (especially if it doesn't eat a huge hole in my wallet).
Overall, the product was of good quality - packaging, etc. They eye shadows didn't 'crumble' and weren't cheap-feeling/looking (but they don't rank in with Mac or Clinique in my opinion). They went on nicely after using an eye primer and did not crease throughout the day. What I liked least was the drug store quality brushes that come with these eye shadows. This is one of the more high-end drug store brands I've tried so far.
After playing around a bit, I was able to achieve a look that I was comfortable with and could wear all day (using eye primer from Clinique first). The look I went for was a more subtle one, that would keep all day and not have to change from a day to a night look.
The two pallets I received were Taupe Temptress and Irresistible Ivy. I will definitely be checking out the other pallets in the near future for more fun looks.
Thanks to Maybelline and Chick Advisor for selecting me to be a reviewer of this great product. I received Purple Icon and Give me Gold, I was so excited when I saw which colours I received because I've been wanting to buy a really nice purple eyeshadow for some time, and the gold palette would suit my eyes.
I tried for a dramatic look as well as a more softer, romantic look. Both turned out really great, thanks to the small picture on the back of the palettes. The only drawback were the brushes, which I didn't like and didn't use. The shadows went on silky smoothwith my own brush and it lasted most of the day because I always wear a primer underneath my shadows. I got several compliments from friends and family because both palettes made my green eyes look amazing! My overall experience using this product was great, I had a lot of fun in creating new looks. I would definately buy more colour palettes and several of my friends have already bought other colours of this product with the coupons I gave them. Thank you very much!
I got two palettes from Chickadvisor to try out. I got 20 - Sapphire Siren and 100- Sunset Seduction. I feel very differently about these two palettes. How two items from the same collection can be so different I do not know.
100 - Sunset Seduction is a great neutral quad. All the shades in the quad are shimmery and pearly without being over powering. The second more red shade is a dupe for Mac's expensive pink! I like the quad and love the looks I can make with it but I do wish there was at least one matte colour in the quad for balance.
20 - Sapphire Siren is a quad with a blue and teal tones. Every single shade in here is super shimmery! TOO shimmery for me. She frost in it are large to pull off. The only non shimmery/frost one is the black which has large chunks of silver glitter in it. Even the lightest shade, it is white, has too much chunky glitter/shimmer to it. Blue on blue eyes doesn't work ether, I have blue eyes so this just made my eyes bright blue colour wash out. Over all I was disappointed in this palette since it was to glittery and shimmery for day wear or even for going out. Unless you are clubbing I cannot see this working out, I felt like a disco ball wearing this.
Over all, they are great priced for the quality, and the quality is there! They are a little soft so a lighter hand is needed when applying, but that is not really a bad things. The colour pay off is great and it lasts all day. I found I needed to pat it on rater than blending it in, I really do love the sunset seduction palette and would consider buying another in the series as long as it isn't as shimmery and chunky in shimmer as the sapphire siren.
I just read the back of the package to see that these were made in Canada. That is a nice plus and indeed I will be checking out the stores for other colour combos that are less shimmery than the Sapphire Siren and more like the Sunset Seduction some time soon..
-Tested "Mad for Mauve" & "Pink Persuasion"
-Overall experience was pretty good. I found the application brush was not effective at all in achieving the desired result. Having a set of brushes is really key as well as some sort of primer as the shadow does disappear by the end of the day. The application is very smooth though and does give a great look. How was your overall experience using this product?
-Not only does the set layout itself give you an idea of how your look should be applied, but the image on the back of the container is handy for those who may be a bit inept at the art of make up application. I found the web site helpful as well for giving two looks that can be achieved for each palette as well.
-i opted for the subdued look when using both palettes. Although I may be adventurous with colour, I'm not bold in application.
-My coworker did notice the new colours. The purples and greens are complimentary to my eye colour and are colours I don't often wear. so she noticed right away.
-I found the palette was about right for the price and would probably purchase another.
Thanks to Maybelline & ChickAdvisor for this great product!
I have always been a fan of a different brand of eyeshadow, but this line may have swayed me back to Maybelline. The colours are super, they're smooth and the colours really make my eyes pop.
I was pleasantly surprised by the texture of this eyeshadow, as well as the way it lasted through the entire day!
Good job on a great product Maybelline!
