I bought this mascara for the name and for a change. Sadly it did not give me the effects it was promising me. I found that it was too watery and it didn't give my lashes the full lengthening that it says it would. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that doesn't have long lashes.
This would be good for people with long lashes with the effects of curling their lashes. Other than that, this product would not be useful for anyone else.
I would recommend L'Oreal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara for full lengthening (I've written a review for this product also).
So, I stooped to the brilliant marketing on this one. Love the packaging- it's a sexy stilleto heel. And I was drawn in by the claim to its "black patent high gloss shine". I have thin, but long lashes and when a decent mascara is used, I'm able to achieve a good look. I thought the "shine" factor would add just that little bit more to really make them stand out. (Why didn't someone think of that sooner?) I used it for a week before I gave it to my daughter. She didn't like it either. I didn't really like the way the brush applied; it seemed kind of - uneven? Some lashes would be gooped up and others were missed. I didn't see any noticable shine. There was definitely a raccoon look to my eyes by the end of the day. I tried to like it, I really did, but in the end, clever marketing got me and I went back to my old favorite, Loreal Double Extend lash tips.
My mother raised me a Maybelline girl so there has always been a place in my heart for their brand. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara and I are old friends so it was a big step for me to pay $11.99 for a tube of Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto Mascara. But I did it anyway. Because Maybelline has done right by me.
Honestly, the best advice I can give to anyone in the market for mascara experimentation is not to 'judge the book by the cover.' Sure, this mascara might be shaped like a stiletto, but that's where the comparison ends.
I don't mean to tell you that this is a bad product though. In theory, it isn't. The product works fine and would be perfect if every woman out there wanted ONE eye to look fantastic for the night. Instead of both. Or if everyone were pirates. It just seems that by the time you get that one eye perfectly coated, you've run out. And who's going to buy 2 tubes of mascara just to have intense eyes for the night? You might as well buy falsies.
It goes on relatively smooth but it comes off even smoother - which I can't say is really a characteristic I look for in mascaras. Touch your eye the wrong way or break any sort of sweat and it'll be all over your hands or your face. But don't worry, it will only be one eye, because there wasn't enough of it in the tube to do both.
Overall, it's on it's way to becoming a high-quality Maybelline product, but it's not quite there yet. I'll stick to my $6.99 Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. It's recession-proof and I only need to buy one tube at a time (except when they come in the 2 packs at Wal-Mart)!
I absolutely hated this mascara. It doesn't even lengthen you eyelashes at all, plus it smells horrible! In my opinion, i wouldn't suggest you to buy it. I will never buy it again, for sure.
I bought the German version of this mascara a few weeks ago while I was abroad, and the results seem to be the same as most of the other reviews out there. It gave my stubby lashes decent length, but only after atleast 6 applications. I did find that my lashes started to droop during the day, which called for another 3 strokes. For 11 Euro ( almost 20 CDN DOLLARS !) it was SO not worth it !
I am the type of person who would usually never even walk through the supermarket makeup section. My girlfriend, who is far more of a princess than I am, swears by her old school pink and green container Maybelline mascara, to which I usually laugh. However this time, when it came time to buy my favorite tried and true Lancôme Hypnose mascara I decided that I was going to make a recession conscious decision, and give Maybelline last stiletto a try.
Complete waste of $10.00. First off, this mascara did not coat my eyelashes very well. I found I had to build layer upon layer in attempt to lift and volumize my lashes, a very unsuccessful endeavor. Then, after having weighed down my eyelashes with coats of strange smelling mascara, it simply flaked off as the day went along. I want to say that I was very disappointed because I went into this experiment with high hopes and a very optimistic outlook, however I don’t think I ever truly believed that this product would work. I usually get compliments on how pretty my eyes are, or how long my eyelashes look. During the week that I wore this mascara, I did not receive a single compliment. On the contrary, I was actually asked if I was tired, sick or not getting enough sleep. I would not recommend this mascara to anyone. Instead I would suggest that they try either Hypnose by Lancôme, or Bad Gal lash by Benefit. If your going to attempt to save money during this recession I would suggest avoiding unnecessary purchases, especially on a deficient mascara such as this.
This mascara is not worth it. It makes your lashes flat. I did like the bottle and brush but it does not make your lashes shiny or long. My lashes looked horrible
The first time I wore this mascara my friends said it looked like I wasn't wearing anything at all! I already have naturally long lashes so maybe that was the problem. But the brush isn't very good either. It looks like a skinny twig. I wouldn't recommend this. Not unless you're going for the REALLY natural look.
I was quite excited also to get this as part of the product review club. And I was thrilled that it was brownish black not just the usual dark black ("trying" to get away from that - hah). Unfortunately, it was not worth the anticipation. I wanted to be sure of my opinion, so I waited to try it a few times.
The packaging is cool, but there is a reason mascara generally comes in a round tube; ease of application is preferrable over the cool square factor. And lengthening it DID do, but it gave a look that was totally spidery. Looked pretty bad actually! Volume is a preferrable option for me as otherwise I need to wear my glasses at the end of my nose, and this length was not exactly worth that extra effort as it was spiky looking and not elegant. (And we do like elegant lashes.....)
It was sort of dry (in the mail too long maybe) and the brush is too long to have a point, but the colour is nice. Oh, and one little drop of water or sweat (like from dancing) and it was a smudgy mess. And yet, it did NOT wash off with soap and water as per the blurb on the back of the card (?).
Overall, it was dissappointing, and I cannot recommend it.
I received this as part of the Chick Advisor product review panel.
First off, I thought the packaging was rather nice, I like how the style of the tube played into the name of the product, it really did look like a stiletto heel!
I gave this a shot after reviewing the Lancome Oscillation and L'Oreal Beauty Tubes mascaras, and unfortunately it just did not stack up!
There's nothing terribly bad about this mascara--it darkens and separates your lashes somewhat and performs all basic mascara duties. My issue is that it did not go above and beyond at all. It was just ho-hum. No super length, no amazing volume or lash definition, it was average to remove at the end of the day. Nothing really remarkable. With all the new innovations in the mascara field out there, I was expecting something that could at least compete.
I'm not sure how much this product cost so I can't comment on value, but I suppose if it is under $6 and you just want something basic then it's ok. However if you're looking for a mascara that works for you, I would search elsewhere.
