Saw these on the shelf and decided to give them a try. I love onion rings, there was one summer when I was a kid that all I wanted to eat for every meal was onion rings. Cooked them in the oven, and they were just ok, nothing too special. A little expensive for how many you get in the box, there are better onion rings to be had elsewhere.
This is a product that is acceptable but not a big favorite with us. It is edible but the taste is bland. They need to receck out the batter. Sometimes when you cook for the masses you end up with an edible product but there is no great flavour. The batter was bland and the onions really did not have a big taste either. Good for kids but for me not a real fan.
It's hard to compete with a restaurant's freshly made onion rings. I was hoping this would. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Although convenient and easy to make, there was very little taste to them.
I wanted to love the McCain Onion rings but in my opinion they fell short. First off the price sits around $4 for a box. There are not enough onion rings in that box for the $4+ price tag. Second, they don't get very crispy. It doesn't matter how hot the oven is, the coating just doesn't live up to what you expect from an onion ring. The coating is also very gritty for lack of a better term. I will stick to deep fried restaurant onion rings or homemade for that true flavor and experience.
I bought these to have a quick meal though the week. I threw them in my actifry so thy would have the deepfried crispy taste but not be as unhealthy but i was a little disappointed. the crispy coating fell off and i was left with partially coated onion rings. Maybe i should have just baked them :S
