After years of watching the movie over and over, I finally caved a week ago and read this book. The Japanese culture is mesmerizing. This was a fantastic glimpse into what geishas and even people went through back in the early years of the 1900's. Mameha is by far my favorite character in both the movie and the books. I enjoyed the book but I prefer the movie. At the end of the movie, they cut it short and you are left with thinking Sayuri and the Chairman are happy. In the book, it doesn't seem like they really are all that happy years later. Don't get me wrong. Movie was very well made and book was well written. It's just one of those stories that anyone will love. I recommend it!
A rich novel that once you dive in you won't be able to put it down until its done. Wonderful and well written.
I read so many books that I cannot afford to purchase them all, so I borrow from the library and only purchase the keepers. Memoirs of a Geisha was a keeper. Beautiful book, poetic in prose.
I have read this book 4 or 5 times so far. It is a very interesting story and I like the way it is presented. It is an easy book to read. I have not seen the movie, but I usually like the books better anyways.
This was a wonderful book. I have never seen the movie but from what I've heard, the book is much better. I took every chance I could to read this book. Loved it!! :)
A great book. It's an interesting look into the world of a Geisha and the business of it. I did watch the movie when it came out and while I did enjoy the movie I felt the book painted a better picture. It's a nice easy read so it's good if you want something casual because the story is easy to follow and the writing style keeps you interested.
Love, love, loved this book. i am a big fan of historical fiction and this is at the top of that list. What a wonderful story. What an unbelievable story. I learned so much about japanese culture. Truly a "must read".
