When I first turned on my MXQ PRO Android TV Box, my first impressions were not great. While its large, simple design on the home screen looked easy enough to navigate, I quickly found that it was not working as intended. After connecting it via wi-fi, I couldn't get any apps to load properly, no videos would play, and even updating the device (which it did not attempt to do when I first turned it on) froze and would not work. Thankfully after turning it off and leaving it for a night, I came back the next day to find the box had done a complete about-face and was now working perfectly. I still don't know what happened, perhaps it updated on its own overnight, but at first I was sure the device was broken.

Once it was working properly, I found that the box was great to navigate with a USB mouse and keyboard, but horrible to navigate with the remote that is included. The remote is very unresponsive and frustrating to navigate with, but if you have a wireless mouse (and a keyboard for even easier navigating) it's very simple and actually a great box for anyone who just wants a media streaming box in their living room.

Youtube and Netflix apps (which were pre-installed) both worked very well and were easy to use. Playing media off a USB stick was also simple. As someone who uses Netflix and Youtube all the time, these two features alone are easy enough to use that I would be happy with this box.

However the box does include Kodi as a selling point, and sadly I didn't have much luck there. While I was able to browse the vast library that is included through Kodi, getting anything to play was difficult and in some cases simply impossible. This might be because Kodi does not support Android TV boxes such as this, and as such the Kodi app may be out of date or slightly difficult to use. I was able to watch some films and TV shows, but doing so took so long and was such an annoying process that I honestly doubt I would even try again.

One other thing that disappointed me was the lack of any bluetooth streaming option. Being able to send a video from my tablet or phone to this Android box via bluetooth would be the ultimate feature for me, so I was disappointed that it wasn't possible. Despite that, anyone who needs a box that is dedicated to streaming media onto your living room TV will find that this Android TV box from MXQ PRO will do the trick. Just make sure you get a mouse to navigate the menus and you're all set.
