While I can't say that I'd ever purchase this bar, I will admit that it was my favourite of the line. But then, I tend to be a bit of a chocolate snob. I will say that if I were to recommend a bar to someone who was looking for a less pricey alternative (at least, I assume the price point would be lower) to a Dagoba, Green and Black's, or, better yet, a bar turned out by an artisanal chocolatier who makes their products by hand, this would be the one.
I was surprised by the quality of the chocolate base. Coming from a mass market confection company, I was expecting something much more waxy and chemical tasting. The chocolate used in this bar, and the other mix-in bars in the line, was a pleasant surprise.
I feel like the caramel bits were of an excellent size, and liked that they weren't dumped into the bar in a quantity that would overwhelm the taste of the chocolate.
I've had better, but I've also had much, much, much worse.
This bar is pretty okay.
I was disappointed in this chocolate bar. Oh, the dark chocolate was very delicious and I liked the little crunchies in the bar, but I could not tell that there was caramel in it! I was chewing the chocolate and was crunching the crunchies, but could not taste any caramel. That was the part that let me down.
Finally I decided to let the chocolate melt in my mouth and "collect" all the crunchies on my tongue and chew them when the chocolate was gone - THEN I tasted caramel. In Nestle's defense, it is rather good, and a fun thing to do, when you melt it on the top of your mouth and then chew a random crunchie in between your front teeth. It's like they gave you something "to do" with the bar.
I just expected to taste more caramel flavor in the chocolate when biting into it. I thought that was the point of the bar (as stated in the description) which "marries smooth dark chocolate made with 64% cocoa solids, with pieces of crunchy caramel to deliver a balanced combination of bitter and sweet taste." Again, I would not turn this down if offered to me but I would not purchase it myself.
Unlike the other Noir bars, I found this one a little too sweet and probably wouldnt get this again. I have never been a huge fan of Caramel so you probably should take that with a grain of salt. I just found this bar a little too typical and a little too sweet. Don't get me wrong, I still ate the whole thing, but It wouldnt be my first choice from the Noir line
I agree with the other reviewers - this puts caramel chocolate back into the competition for me. I hate Caramilk-style bars and didn't know what to expect here. As always, the rich cocoa base guaranteed that I was going to be pleasantly surprised.
As others have said here, I think they could have made the caramel flavor a little stronger; it did not taste as different from the base chocolate compared to the cherry flavor (which I think was the perfect balance between two flavors). I also wasn't wild about how the caramel bits stuck in my teeth, but will gladly take that in exchange for caramel chocolate finally done right!
Overall, I would happily recommend this chocolate to anyone. Although it wasn't my personal fave of the four that I sampled, it is definitely a treat I'll buy again!
I really enjoyed this dark chocolate with little bits of crunchy caramel. The dark chocolate was smooth and bitter sweet; Nestle has done a very good job with this dark chocolate. The caramel bits gave the chocolate a nice crunchy texture, which is different from the soft, chewy caramel which you'd normally expect in a chocolate bar. However, I think it would've been even tastier if the caramel flavour was a little more prominent. I find he dark chocolate is overpowering the caramel and you really have to "look for" the caramel flavour. Overall, it's a wonderful chocolate bar and I'd highly recommend this to any dark chocolate lovers!!
I must say that out of all the chocolates I tried in the Nestle Noir line, this is the biggest surprise of them all. I was expecting gooey caramel to leak out of the chocolate as I broke it off (bad!), but all I got were little chunks of caramel heaven (good!).
The combination of the caramel and chocolate was absolutely fantastic. Another indication of how good this is? I opened up all Nestle Noir chocolates at the same time, placed in the middle of our dining room table. The caramel chocolate was running out so quickly, I had to tell my family to save me some for my review! I think this is a definite crowd pleaser.
This one put caramel chocolate in my good books.
This one was absolutely amazing. I will admit that I do prefer pure chocolate... but when I'm in the mood for chocolate with a bit of a bite to it, this will be the one that I will purchase!
The crunchy caramel combined with the smooth chocolate was a beautiful contrast of textures and taste in my mouth. Yes chocolate eating can get very sensual...I'm sure that's why us women love it!
I am still a little shocked at the Nutrition Facts, however. 4 grams of fibre/per serving of 3 squares. That was surprising to me! No wonder less can satisfy you more... but remember to drink more water!
This was excellent. A must try.
I really liked this chocolate bar, it was my favorite of the four Nestle bars. The creamy bitterness of the dark chocolate pairs so well with the sweet crunchiness of the caramel. It's a great combination of contrasting flavors and textures in one indulgent treat!
I am now a devotee of this chocolate! The rich dark flavour is perfectly balanced with the caramel pieces. Even my husband, who doesn't generally eat dark chocolate, ate one piece and then I had to hide it from him as he wanted to eat it all! It is absolutely FABULOUS!
