Nestlé NOIR Mousse Delicate Dark Chocolate Reviews
#536 in Chocolate

Description

Celebrating a back to basics approach to chocolate, Nestlé Noir is like slipping into a favourite little black dress, it is something familiar and simplistic that evokes a sense of pleasure. This enjoyment can be directly related to the carefully selected exotic cocoa beans featured in the tablets from two different geographical origins – Ghana and Ecuador. More information here.

    One work sums it up....yum!

This chocolate was a delicious treat. I was lucky enough to try the dark chocolate version as well as the milk chocolate version. Out of the two I preferred the milk chocolate because it was lighter and creamier. However I found that I was able to satisfy my chocolate craving with only piece of the dark chocolate version as it was much richer. The milk chocolate left me wanting more!

I really liked the way it was packaged. Each piece comes in it's own holder so it was easy to remove from the package as well as share with friends. I found the chocolate pieces did not become sticky from touching the packaging like some bars do especially as the weather starts to warm up.

I recommend this product and will purchase it again when in need of a chocolate fix!

I think I'm probably the only one who didn't like these mousse chocolates. *blush*

I received this through the Product Review Club. I was also selected to review the last Nestle Noir series and I LOVED those (especially the one with the cherry bits). I was very excited to try these mousse chocolates because they look delish and they sound delish. Not to mention I'm a huge dark chocolate fan, the darker the better. But I was very disappointed by these mousse chocolates.

    What I liked?

    - The packaging is unique. It gives the chocolates a look of elegance. If Nestle is trying to market these chocolates as a high end product and hope they are comparable to brands like Lindt, I think they did a good job.

    - Each piece of chocolate is pretty big in size...particularly great for someone who's looking for a sugar-overload.

    - The price is alright, considering the amount of chocolate you get. And it would've worth the money had I enjoyed the chocolates...but I didn't.

    - I definitely liked the dark chocolate mousse better than the milk chocolate. However, this preference could be a result of the simple fact that I adore dark chocolate and almost 95% of the time prefer dark over milk chocolates.

    What I didn't like?

    - It was WAY too sweet and too rich. A good dark chocolate should be bittersweet but these chocolate mousse was just sweet, period. I couldn't taste the bitterness because my tastebuds were so overwhelmed by the sugar. Like the milk chocolate, I made the mistake of popping the whole chocolate in my mouth (I'm an overzealous chocolate lover) and ended up having to wash the chocolate down with milk because it was too rich.

    - The mousse center was smooth, but it felt "spongy" on my tongue. The texture was weird and it felt artificial. It definitely didn't give me the "melting in the mouth" sensation.

    - Because I was so put off by the sweetness of the chocolate, it took me a whole week to bring myself to eat this again. I cut the chocolate in half this time and the half-bite size was better. But I still found the chocolate too sweet. I couldn't leave the chocolate taste in my mouth afterwards to savour the flavour (like I always do with good food) and I had to wash away the taste with tea.

Overall, this chocolate did not live up to my expectations. I wouldn't waste my money on these chocolate mousse because I know Nestle can make tastier dark chocolates than these. I'd rather spend my money on the non-mousse dark chocolates because those were so much more enjoyable.

First, a big thank you to Chick Advisor for including me in the Nestle Mousse Chocolate Review.

In an effort to get as much feedback as possible for my review, I enlisted two of my best male chums. I found it interesting that, as I dove into the chocolate, they were interested in the mechanism of the box (ah, how our brains do differ...). So, let's start with the box itself:

Package design: This is intriguing and unique as far as "drugstore" chocolate goes, and we all liked that it opens sideways. In particular, we liked the handsome black box for the dark chocolate, and we all agreed that this is the one we would give if we were buying to give as a gift.

Tab and Mechanics: This is the only place where we unanimously found a negative. The little gold tab was really hard to deal with. In fact, my manicured fingernails came in handy for digging it out. The boys resorted to using a knife to pry it up. Then, when it came time to seal the box closed (you're supposed to put the tab into a slot) the paper just wasn't strong or thick enough, and it crumpled up (not a good thing). The process was too finicky, and would try the patience of most people, including us. The saving grace was that, since we polished off the chocolates in one go, it wasn't necessary to re-seal the boxes, but in another case, we'd probably close the box with a piece of tape or by putting something heavy on top to keep the lid down.

Grammar: Not sure if anyone else noticed, but the writing on the inside of the box appears to use the semi-colon incorrectly. After the words See, Smell, Hear, Touch, Feel, it seems that there should be a full colon. Colon: used to separate an explanation from the preceding independent clause.

Presentation in box: It's lovely to discover that, inside, it's like a traditional box of chocolates, with a modern twist because the chocolates themselves are a unique and interesting shape. The box would be perfect to pass around the office as a little pick-me-up, with much more share-ability than, say, a chocolate bar.

    Okay, now about the chocolate...

Mousse Filling: bubbly, smooth, creamy texture. It's somewhere on the spectrum between chocolate icing and mousse and brownie.

Outer shell: Dark or milk, the contrast between the outer shell and inner mousse was really nice.

Texure: melts in your mouth!!!!! Wonderful texture.

Size: one bite or two, it's all good.

Milk chocolate: we all agreed that this version is verrrrry sweet, not for the faint of heart.

Dark: across the board, we loved this one!! You can really taste the cocoa; a more complex flavour.

Verdict: Hands-down, we love everything about the Dark Chocolate. The box is black and elegant; the gold writing is easy to read against the black background; the dark chocolate flavour is not too sweet. A winner. The milk, while really nice, has a sweetness that verges on cloying.

When Would Buy: In what context would we purchase this product? It would be the perfect anytime-treat to give to a friend who offered us a lift to work or to the co-worker who stayed late to help debug our computer.

Price: The price point is more than for a chocolate bar, yet totally affordable and perfect for an impulse buy when you want "better" than a bar. The elegance of the packaging and font-type is right up there with a nice box of chocolates yet the chocolate quality is more drugstore than boutique, which, when it comes to chocolate, is totally fine.

    Would We Purchase: Absolutely!!

This product is that perfect in-between when you want that extra-something, for yourself or for a friend. Definitely recommend it!!

This one was my favourite over the milk chocolate which was surprising because I lovvve milk chocolate. The milk chocolate didn't really impress me but the dark did. The taste was so satisfying, sweet but not too sweet and the texture very soft. They are pretty big in size too which is great. The packaging was really nice. I thought the dark chocolate looked the best in terms of packaging as well. Right away I thought this would make a great gift. I liked that they had a little tab to reseal the chocolate which was a bit tricky to get open at first but not too bad. All I can say is I hope they come out with some more of these, maybe a white or mint chocolate yumm.

I'm normally not a big fan of dark chocolate. But I liked the Nestle Noir Mouse Delicate Dark Chocolate. It had the bitter dark chocolate taste, but not too bitter and the mouse inside was smooth and tasty. I like the texture of the harder chocolate shell compared to the creamy center. It was a delight to bite into. The size of the pieces was just enough to get a taste and satisfy my sweet tooth with just one.

I was disappointed with the packaging, although pretty and well presented, I wonder what happened to the days of reducing waste. There was way too much plastic and paper for the amount of product.

Overall, a great chocolate for dark chocolate lovers!

    Thanks Product Review Club!!!

I received this alongside the milk chocolate from the product review club. I prefer dark chocolate to start but these were definately a better choice than the milk. The dark chocolate shell along with the dark inner filling were fantastic. They were rich and I often found having just one (maybe two) was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. These chocolates reminded me of a truffle, the way they melted, tasted and the texture overall. I would definately recommend them as a nice treat once in a while and for those of you who are dark chocolate fans they are a must.

I enjoyed these chocolates but I found them quite 'average' in taste. The mousse-centre was very , but for a mousse, I would've prefered it more "mousse-y"-- the inside texture of these chocolates were thicker than I expected. Overall, I found they lacked a rich, true chocolate flavour but for the price, they're a great snack to have around!

Well I was lucky to get any of this chocolate with an 11 year old in the house. It had a deep and delicious flavour that the both of us enjoyed. I will definitely purchase this chocolate again and am definitely recommending that you give it a try!

I'll start off by saying Thanks ChickAdvisor and Nestle for this product in the Review Club!!!!

I was very thrilled to try these chocolates, and when the box came in the mail I was so shocked at how pretty and cool the box was, I loved that it was actually like a box of chocolates rather than just a package with individually wrapped chocolates. THe Box is AWESOME.

Now for the chocolate. A couple of mine were broken in the box, which was a disappointment because the best thing about these chocolates is how when you bite in you get the crisp of the shell and the soft of the mousse. I loved how the shell wasn't too crispy and it wasn't too soft. It was perfect! The mousse is interesting, I have never tasted anything like it, but it was nice and fluffy and light and very yummy.

I would totally buy these again, and would also gift them to other fellow dark chocolate lovers!
