I have used this product a few times on my upper lip and it does work although you have to be sure to cover the area completely or you will miss some hair. The last time I used it I did not go close enough to my lip so I was left with a small line of hair right at the top of my lip but the rest of it came off well. Make sure to follow package directions exactly or you will have problems. I will continue to use this as it is no where near as painful as waxing and it leaves my upper lip with just a tingly feeling, I do not believe it smells bad at all. You have to make sure to put the protector balm on properly or you will burn your upper lip. I will continue to use this product as it is quick and not messy.
I used the original formula for fine-to-medium hair (turquois stripe). But, the newer duo is for coarser, more resilient hair (magenta stripe). They're both $23.99 USD.
They borrowed this concept from hair relaxer kits. I even tried applying petroleum jelly before depilatory creams, once. The jelly just blocked the cream completely and nothing happened. So, I was excited to try this "guarding balm" before applying the cream. I always rub the balm wider than needed (and apply the cream only where it's needed) to provide more protection.
The balm is thin enough to allow the cream to work, but tough enough to prevent chemical burns!!!
After 5 minutes, I remove both products with a WARM damp (not soaked) paper towel. Then I rinse, while GENTLY rubbing the treated area with my fingers. I pat dry and apply a gentle moisturizer. Do NOT use a toner, retinoid or acne treatment on you hair removal days.
If you need to leave the product on longer than the allotted 8 minutes, try the stronger formula. I didn't experience any discomfort or irritation. But if one formula irritates you, try the gentler one next time.
By far the easiest, fastest no mess hair removal product! NO bad odour, easy easy, and no tears or plucking!!!! Yes, no plucking, I love how easy it is, not the price! Would only purchase again, if I had a coupon!
Great product, works great. If you have any facial hair that is a bit coarse you'll have to leave it on a bit longer and I still have a few that require plucking but overall works.
I bought this last week after my husband was nice enough to point out that I needed a shave. Yes he got a good smack! LOL I heard somewhere that if you eat a lot of sugary things as you get older you'll have a better chance of growing facial hair. Now I don't know how true this is, but I do know that I love my sweets and unfortunately I am getting older. I found it at WalMart on sale for $22 so I decide to give this a try. The first time I tried it I was a little worried it would burn my face, so I didn't use as much of the hair removal product as it said to use. The box contains one stick of the Olay skin guarding balm; witch is step one in the process and one tub of the Olay hair removal cream. You are suppose to do a 48 hour test on your skin before you apply any of it to your face, but I didn't do that either and was find. How ever that's just me and you should always fallow the instructions that come with any products you use! I applied the skin balm and rubbed it in for the 20, or so seconds it tells you to do, then I applied the hair removal cream and waited eight minutes. When the time was up I wiped it off with a tissue like it says to do, but it didn't take all of the hair off. So a few days later I went through the process again only using the right amount of the hair removal cream. This time all of the hair was gone. Now my husband won't be able to make fun of my mustache! The Olay Facial Hair Removal Due is a bit pricy, but it does work and you get enough to last you a long time. One thing I didn't like about it was the packaging it came in. They used way more then was need for this product witch is a big waste, especially for those that don't recycle even though they should. I do but I know a lot of people don't either because they don't have a recycling program where they live, or they just don't bother to. So I wish Olay would think about making a change to the packaging of this product.
I really like this product, but I don't love it. Even though I followed the directions and used the skin guarding balm properly, I still had the tell tale redness on my upper lip. That being said however, the product does a very good job as a hair removal product, and that to me is what matters most. I've found that many other facial hair removal products only seem to work partially. I will keep using this product because it is effective and the redness fades, but I will only replace it if I see it on sale for a great price.
I noticed it shows the average price of this product as $12.99, I have only seen it in stores for $24.99 or there about, I only wish I could find it at the $12.99 cost!
I tried posting this and it did not show up in the reviews sorry if it double posts :)
I have tried my fair share of hair removers only to end up with red irritated skin. This caught my eye because it said there is a skin guarding balm included. So I thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately as I aged I began to get these fair fuzzy little hairs above my lip I think all us ladies do and its not flattering at all.But whats worse is trying a hair removal and having a bright red mark across your lip afterwards like I've experienced in the past. This new product from Olay was great I was so happy with the end results.
The balm looks just like a lipstick stick.First you apply the skin guarding balm lightly across the area to be treated.Be sure to apply a thin layer.Using your finger tips massage the balm into your skin going beyond the area treated.Massage for about 20 seconds in a circular motion. This helps so the hair removal cream does not come in direct contact with the skin.
Second:Apply the hair removal cream apply a large layer to your fingertip and smooth over the area where you want to remove hair(where the balm was applied)(DO NOT RUB IT IN)After about 6-8 minutes and no more then 10 minutes remove with a tissue or cotton ball then rinse with lukewarm water.I waited for 10 minutes to be sure.
My skin felt so soft afterwards and best of all no irritated skin. Its been a week and no hairs have grown back, I'm very impressed with this product.
