I cannot begin to describe how much I love this book series, and I'm only one book in so far. This book is wonderful; it's got action, adventure, comedy, drama, romance, time travel, and the Scottish highlands. I am obsessed with cheesy Scottish romance novels, which is what I thought this was going to be, but no, it turns out this book is actually amazing with depth, great memorable characters, wonderful plot, and beautiful writing. I can see why they turned this series into a television show, and I can understand why this series has been popular for more than a decade.
What can I say about my favourite book series of all time?? I've laughed out loud, I've cried the "ugly cry", I've gotten angry at characters and had to put the book in the freezer to cool them off (thanks, "Friends" for the idea) To be honest, this book took a bit to get into. I stopped and started reading it a few times before I hit page 50...after that, I couldn't put it down. I have read all but the last book. Dragonfly in Amber (book #2) is my favourite. I've read the series 4 or 5 times over the past 10 years...I can't recommend it enough.
Please be warned, these books are not for the faint of heart, or weak of stomach. There are some very upsetting scenes. Don't be surprised if you find you have to put your book in the freezer too.
I read this series about 10 years ago and fell in love. Now with the series on TV, which of course I am watching - it's surprisingly very well done - I've started reading the first book again. I am an avid reader and a sucker for historical romances with a bit of the supernatural. This will always be one of my favorite stories - it's a must for any one searching for the next great read. But be warned, it'll take over your life and you'll spend far too much time reading!
This series was recommended to me by a male friend. I know! We had been talking about historical fiction books and this series was brought up. He had only read the first three books but seemed to enjoy them to he got me curious. I mean how often does a manly man recommend historical romance books? I read most of the series in about two months, before the TV series started. The books are so much better! A great read.
You have to experience these books to know what all the hype is about, I didn't read the books until I saw the show on tv and now I want more, so far i have read them all and want to read more, I love Clair and Jamie,
I have read the entire series - earlier books more than once when a new book is coming out. I absolutely love the first books, but found the last two less riveting. Perhaps that is due to the fact that I am not really an American history fan. My favourites in the series are Dragonfly in Amber and Outlander. I would recommend the series to anyone who enjoys really getting into a good book for a long read!
I so enjoyed reading the Outlander book series. What an adventure to have. The love that Jamie and Claire share is so real and passionate and is put to the test so many times. It was beautifully written and you too felt transported back in time and part of their incredible journeys.
When I was initially given one of these books I was intimidated by the size of the book its huge. But once I started ready in the first novel and couldn't stop myself I had to read the entire series. These books are amazing and you just get swept away in the amazing story. Just so enjoyable.
