It smells weird?

So in the bottle in the store this shampoo smelled awesome right? It was on clearance and I had coupons so why not? I went to use it and I was hit with a smell that I hadn't smelled before and don't ask me why, but it smelled like there was an underlying scent of dog food. I do have a cold so I'm probably crazy. I used it anyway, assuming that I was nuts, and the after result is no, my hair does not smell like dog food, it feels hydrated and smells nice, so I really don't know what happened.
