Alright, not quite what they used to be but good for under5$
They used to have a little bit more texture in the filling rather than a mechinally seperated paste but still after all the changes I'd say they are worth it for under 5$ (or up to 7$ at some places) and for some reason Walmart is the only place I've ever received empty patties, other stores like giant tiger, Sobeys/Safeway, Loblaws etc have all been good to me as in giving me the product I expected. Most of these frozen brands are low quality and the better ones are typically more expensive (especially for frozen foods...) so in when browsing some items like this, seek the items with more demand even though it may be a little more than you will know why everyone else is getting it. PS. Oven cook on 375°F for 20 minutes like the box says, microwaving them honestly kinda kills it and trust me even if you make it seem like you need it then in there just try to hold off for the 20 minutes you won't regret it.
Absolutely Horrible
I have seen these in the store for a long time and missed Jamaican patties so I decided to try them. I was really excited and assumed they would be decent. Horribly disappointed. We ate 2 and threw the other 16 in the box out. The filling has little flavour and a lot of slimy gelatinous gravy. Nothing close to authentic. They were so gross we had to throw them all out.
Used to be good
I got these babies home and the pastrie was hard and ... well, not edible. Worse, the shells were empty... no filling. If you are going to sell me a stale rotten shell, at least put something in it!
Used to be good, but not anymore
I've bought these several times - the filling tastes good, I must admit... when there is any of it. I just got back from the grocery store with a box of 20 patties, and put two in the microwave. When I cut into them, one had no filling whatsoever - not even a smudge. The other had the slightest smear - really not even enough to bother with. Unlike past times, the pastry was tough, hard, almost inedible. Additionally, of the 20 patties, 4 were not sealed in their wrappers, but just floating loose in the cardboard box.
This is a manufacturer once had it right. They had a decent quality product, easy to make and worth buying, but it would seem that they "Cheaped out," and decided that they would give up on quality for quick profit.
Don't buy these folks... they are not what they used to be.
Didn't think I would like them but they are delicious
These are really great for on the go, and super easy to make. They are quite tasty, and have quite a bit of flavour for being a frozen meal. They are also a really great value, so it makes it worth buying them.
I am not one to usually eat spicy foods, so I would have hated these if they were spicy, but guess what? They are not spicy at all :)
