100% OF CHICKS DIG IT
I just got a new puppy Roxie as some of you may know and she's a very smart girl. She's a German Shepard so they are naturally smart but with the right training they can be the best damn dog you could ever have. I have seen a lot of people have great success with Clicker training and I wanted that for Roxie.. I mean who wouldn't want a well trained dog right? So when Pet's Mum had this advertised on Tomoson for me to try for free in exchange for my honest review I was really excited and couldn't wait to try it.
In the package you receive a dog whistle, a lanyard for the whistle to attach to, and of course the clicker which was my main reason for wanting to review this product in the first place, The other two things were just an added bonus. I received this product quickly as it was through amazon prime and so I got it within 2 days which was great because I was excited to start training with Roxie. I really like the quality of the product. With most dog items I find that they are either really expensive and well made or affordable and cheaply made you don't really find a balance in my experience it's usually one extreme or the other. However with that being said I found to really like the quality of this product. The clicker although made of plastic didn't feel as if it was going to break and I liked that it had a wristband attached to it so that I wouldn't easily lose or drop it while training Roxie. The clicker was easy to use as it's pretty self explanatory..just click it.
The whistle on the other hand was a bit more tricky as you have to adjust the pitch for your dog. What may work for me and my dog may not work for someone else. Now when I say it was a bit tricky I don't mean that it was hard to do or that the product was somehow at fault. That's not the case it's actually really simple to do you just twist the top metal piece right or left to adjust the pitch the only problem is your dog should be looking away from you or relaxing/ sleeping when you test it because what you're looking for is for them to give you a reaction when you blow into it. If you blow into and get no response chances are that it's not at the right pitch level for your dog and so you have to adjust it. With Roxie it took a few tries to get it right. However I did find one thing that I didn't particularly like about the whistle I found that you had to blow a lot harder then I would have liked in order to get the clear sound. Not that big of a deal but hey honest review right?
Now, Training Roxie was a bit hard as she's still a puppy so she gets distracted so easily. She wants to play and run around not "work". So it took me a few times to get her even remotely interested in listening to a "clicker" or "whistle" but once she got used to the sound it was a lot easier to train her. I would give her a command and then wait for her to respond and as soon as she did the command I would click the clicker and then give her positive reinforcement and a treat. It's a very repetitive process but it does work if you keep at it. Pet's Mum also provides you with 2 FREE E-books to help with training which I found useful in the beginning but later on you will adapt to what you find useful to you and your dog.
Overall I really like this product. It works as it should, the whistle I use to get Roxie's attention and she respond really well to it. and the Clicker is just a faster reinforcement of a command done well. Roxie has now learned that when she hears that clicking noise she did a good job and then gets a treat. It's a way to keep her attention.and it's a sound that she can relate too. I have been using this product for a few months now and I think it's great. I would definitely purchase from Pet's Mum again. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is trying to train their dog's and wants a good quality product for a fraction of the price!
