I've just started using this face wash. I wanted something that would work well as a makeup remover as well as washing my face, and this is it. I use this in the evenings when I come home, and my face feels nice and fresh and clean, not dried out at all. it cleans so quickly. I know you can use it as an eye makeup remover as well, but I don't, mostly because I usually still have my contacts in, and don't like having water and soap near my eyes. i use an eyemakeup remover later.
I have been using Proactiv for quite a while now, but recently it has been drying out my skin, and my results seem to have peaked, so I decided to try a new (more gentle) cleanser. After reading the fabulous reviews here I decided to give Philosophy a try.
I have combination/oily skin, which is also slightly acne prone. As I mentioned I had been using Proactiv so my skin was fairly clear. Purity improved the overall texture and tone of my skin -- it looked soft and smooth. My pores appeared smaller and tighter, and my skin had an overall dewy glow. I felt that my skin was perfectly hydrated as well. It is a bit of a heavy cleanser, but it did not make my skin feel too oily which I was very happy about. It also claims to be an all-in-one cleanser, meaning that it is a cleanser, make-up remover and toner as well. I think they made good on these claims, because it did a great job of making my skin feel wonderfully clean as well as totally removing my make-up.
Now for the bad. My acne began to come back after several weeks of using this cleanser. I cannot (and will not) hold this against the cleanser though because it does not claim anywhere that it fights acne, nor does it have active acne fighting ingredients in it, so I know that I used it at my own risk. I have since gone back to my trusty old Proactiv, but will still use Purity in the morning until it runs out.
I also have to note that many commented on the scent being bad, but I really like it. I can't quite describe it, but it smells clean and fresh, and the closest comparison I can make to it is the fresh smell of laundry (but even that is more of the feeling it gives me, rather than a description of the actual scent itself).
It is relatively expensive for a cleanser, but as many noted, you don't need to use a lot each time (a little goes a long way) so it will last for a while. Also, if you achieve the results many claim to, it is well worth the money. If I did not have acne prone skin, I would have been 110% satisfied. Give it a try! I got a little bottle from Sephora for $14.
Next, I think I will try their Completely Clear Skin System, because I was very happy with the quality of this product overall.
For the price, it lasts really long. I use this cleanser to get rid of my make-up, and I really really like it. It doesn't foam a lot, but that's because it also DOES NOT dry the face. I also use this cleanser to wash my make-up brushes, and everything has been going well so far. I have no complaints about this products. It's great! I recommend it to anyone with combination skin like mine.
I love the clean scent of this. I love how clean my face is after using this. Makes my skin look vibrant. Its a great cleanser for everyday use.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff. It has significantly helped the quality of my skin. I use this with their microderm exfoliator, using this at night and the exfoliator in the morning. This stuff is so refreshing... it doesn't leave any gross soapy film on your face, and it makes your skin so soft.
If you havent tried this cleanser yet, you seriously need to.
this is a great option for all skin types, despite what the sephora saleswoman told me. I have dry yet oily extremely sensitive acne prone skin, and have tried everything from clinique's 3 step system to proactiv to simple drugstore cures, and there just isnt a cleanser out there that tops this one. Its an ivory, milk based cleanser and a little goes a long way. I recieved a small bottle (about 8 oz) In november, and still have over half of it left.
you dampen your face a little, spread a small dollop of this insanely smooth, heavenly mixture on your face and gently lather. take your time for the cleanser to work its magic. a minute will do. this stuff will literally melt the makeup off your face, and leave you with baby soft skin. it has a slight peppery scent that put me off a little at first, but it quickly fades. after using this product for a few days, i was hooked. my face wasnt getting as oily, my dry patch had gone away, and after about a week most of my blemishes has cleared up and there werent any new ones in sight. :)
i recieved this as an early christmas present from my best friend in the makeup optional kit from sephora, because im always going on about my skin. best present ever, and i dont go a day without it now!
oh, sweet philosophy. i love you so.
I really don't understand why this product won the award as "best of Sephora", seems like I am the only one who dislikes this product. This cleanser did not do anything for me. It never removed my make-up and it felt as if I was just slathering on product on my face, rather than a cleanser designed to clean my face. From my experience, I had to apply it to my face 2-3 times in order to remove any make-up on my face. . . but that's just me?
I have oily skin and even though I am 32 years old at times I break out like a teenager and I hate it. So, this cleanser I used sparingly, only at night, in case it did not react well with my skin. After a week of use, I have not noticed any bad reaction and I really like this product. I like it because you only need a tiny amount and so the bottle will likely last between six an eight months. And it does not seem to have any perfumes or dyes in it. The only thing you need to make sure of is to rinse your face well because its a bit heavy. I find my skin is quite moisturized after use, as opposed to other cleansers that make my face feel dry. Overall, I’d recommend this product to anyone!
This is a great cleanser. I have very oily skin and this, even though oil is listed as one of the ingredients, has not made me breakout. My skin is actually clearer since I started using it about 8 months ago. It has a different smell, but not unpleasant. It removes makeup quite well, although it is still not the best with removing eye makeup. I'm really happy with it... it's one of the few products that helped with my skin's acne and does not irritate or overdry.
I recently picked up this item, my first foray into pricier (read: not drugstore) cleansers. According the Philosophy, Purity is a cleanser, toner and makeup remover all in one.
I was ambivalent about these claims when I first read them. However, I am happy to report that it does a decent job living up to its claim. Purity is an absolutely awesome cleanser. It takes away the day's dirt/oil really well without leaving my skin dried out, but instead soft and touchable. It works so well, I actually skip my toner altogether. As a makeup remover, it can remove my eyeliner but my mascara gets left behind. It gets left behind on my face cloth. I have found however that I haven't needed to use my L'Oreal makeup morever since.
The price is steeper than I'd like at $26 CAD for an 8oz bottle and $42 for a 16oz bottle. I'm better off going to the States and buying a couple of bottles as they're $6 and $10 less respectively.
