Makes The Best Brownies
We make brownies often for our Saturday night movie night snack. This mix makes the best brownies. Always nice and moist, chewy and delicious. Easy and fast to make. A quick warm treat in no time.
So good
I love the Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix, it’s very affordable and the instructions are very easy to follow. The brownies turn out so chewy and delicious evey time. Definitely a family favourite. Pillsbury never disappoints!!
Okay as a last resort.
I don't see Pillsbury brand cake or brownie mixes that often in Canada, so when I saw this chewy fudge brownie mix at the dollarstore I thought I would give it a try. It was easy to make up and baked in half the time listed on the box. Visually they looked and smelled good, like any other box mix brownie, but upon biting into the first one it just kinda fell short of expectations. Kinda lack-luster, tastes fake as my sister put it. Next time I would either go with another brand of box mix brownies or just use my time tested brownie recipe.
Tasty, But Needed A Little Something Extra
My son loves brownies. He asks for them regularly. I normally make them with high quality chocolate and take my time to ensure that they're perfect.
While I'm sure my son appreciates my efforts, spending a small fortune on Valrhona or Callebaut chocolate seemed like a bit of a waste for something that wouldn't last more than 5 minutes. So, I gave in and bought a packaged mix: Pillsbury's Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix.
The first time I made them, my son gobbled them up, without complaint. I tried one and, while they were okay, I found them too sweet and lacking that little something special. I knew that I'd have to tweak the mix, in order to satisfy my culinary conundrum.
I decided to substitute the suggested 1/4 cup water for strong coffee. This added a real depth of flavour and cut down on the sweetness a bit, which made them much more palatable to me. The next time I made them, I also added chopped walnuts, which added another level of deliciousness. Also, cooking them for a little less than the recommended time (in an 8" square Pyrex baking dish) made for a chewier texture, which my family prefers. I felt much better about using a mix, after having made these changes.
I would definitely purchase this product again, but would only recommend it if substitutions/additions were made.
