Description

Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cooking Time: 0 mins
Servings: 8 to 10

Ingredients:

1 pkg (8 oz/250 g) plain brick-style cream cheese
¾ cup (175 mL) shredded cheddar cheese
2 tsp (10 mL) Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp (5 mL) grainy mustard
1 clove garlic, minced
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced
1 tbsp (15 mL) finely chopped jarred pimento, drained
½ cup (125 mL) chopped toasted walnuts
1 bag (650 g) McCain® Spicy Potato Wedges

Using electric mixer, beat cream cheese, cheddar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and garlic until blended. Stir in jalapeño and pimento. Place mixture on large piece of plastic wrap; bring ends together tightly and twist to form ball.

Refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm. Roll in walnuts to coat. Prepare McCain® Spicy Potato Wedges according to package directions.

Serve cheese ball with a cheese knife for spreading on McCain® Spicy Potato Wedges.

Tips: Substitute pecans for walnuts if desired. Use jarred roasted red peppers instead of pimento if desired.

Made this for a treat day at work and everyone loved it! The ball was a little difficult to form but once I to the hang of it it was okay. I used a mix of mild cheddar and tex mex cheese to appeal to more of the staff but it was great! The wedges were hot and crispy so the cheese kind of melted when we spread it on! :)

I made this recipe this past weekend for Family Day out at camp. I buy my father a Jalapeno Cheese Ball from Pepperidge Farm every year for Christmas, and thought this would be a nice addition to the weekend. It doesn't taste the same, but was good on its own. The walnuts added a bit of texture and it wasn't too spicy . . . I would actually probably add a bit of Frank's next time.

Spreading the dip over the wedges was tricky, and over time we just ended up gabbing a box of crackers from the pantry. Cheese balls are usually left out for people to eat as they are socializing, which makes them an odd pairing for potato wedges which are best served hot.

Unique idea, and great recipe for a cheese ball . . . just not the best pairing in my opinion.
