Not the best flavour and too sweet
I’ll simplify this for you. If you love vegetables and already take a lot of ‘green’ smoothies or health food, you’ll probably enjoy this. If not, this won’t change your mind. While the advertised flavour is vanilla, it certainly wasn’t enough to cover the ‘green’ taste. Since I’m a supertaster, I asked my partner for their opinion as well and they said it tasted like ‘vanilla broccoli’, so take that as you will.
The good news is no stevia (famously bitter), but since the health food lobby is against sucralose (a manmade sweetener and the best flavour-wise) this has been sweetened with cane sugar and natural monkfruit. This means not only is it not suitable for diabetics, but those who are sugar-free will also want to avoid. It also means it’s overwhelmingly sweet (presumably as an attempt to disguise the grassy flavour). My sense of taste is so strong and I don’t love things that are overly sweet, but my partner has a sweet tooth and also found this far too sweet. I feel like many companies are not able to successfully integrate Stevia (not applicable in this case) or monkfruit, both of which are much sweeter than sugar and should be used in smaller doses.
Either way, the result is a drink that will be too sweet for some, too sugary for others and too ‘green’ for many more. I’m sure this drink has it’s niche, I just can’t figure out what it is. It’s definitely not the worst thing I’ve ever drank, but it’s not to my taste at all.
There are some benefits though. The 20g of protein for such a small scoop is really good and of course the serving of greens. The texture is pretty good with the exception of the green stuff that floats on top. At least, it doesn’t get clumpy when used in a shaker cup, so that’s pretty good compared to others I’ve tested.
I just didn’t love it, though I’m sure someone out there will.
