It's hard to review this....on one hand, it does offer a great benefit (which is that you can use them when you sleep, which keep the sore from cracking and getting cold-sore-germ all over your pillow, which is important, because cold sores are SUPER contagious, and, yes, you can spread them to yourself if you touch it and then touch your lip/face/other unmentionable areas, and then you will have more than one infection). But, on the other hand, there is NO medicinal ingrediants in these patches....people seem to think there is, but there is not. Okay, that, in and of itself, is okay - after all, they do a good job of keeping the sore from spreading, so, that's a good thing, and they don't need to do more than that by adding medicinal ingrediants (by medicinal ingrediants, I mean something that would help heal the sore, like Abreva does).
But. But...how the heck do they get away with charning 20 dollars for 15 tiny tiny patches?? That's over a dollar a patch! And the patches are nothing...just little circles of something that looks like tape.
I guess, my feeling on them is this: they do a great job of keeping the sore from spreading & causing more new infections, but they are so over-priced it is insane.
What I do is buy them, but only wear them at night. Who can afford to wear them all the time? Cold sores can last up to two weeks, and the patches only last about 8 hours....you do the math, and you'll find wearing them all the time is crazy crazy expensive.
As I said, due to the insane cost, I only wear them at night. During the day, I use some kind of cream, like Abreva or one of those Lysiene creams. This works for me, because all the patch does (since it has no medicinal ingrediants) is stop the sore from spreading....to me, the most important time to wear them is nighttime, since I might touch it in my sleep and spread it around, and because I don't want the virus all over my pillow cases (after all, it is herpes...."cold sore" is just the nice name for it, it is really a form of herpes). During the day, I use some kind of cream, and just remember not to touch my sore. I use a q-tip to apply the creams, so I don't have to touch the sore.
I will buy these again, because I feel I need them for when I sleep, but I am horrified by the price, especially considering they have no medicinal value. I swear, I am going to try and make home-made ones out of duct tape or something!
I enjoy this product and will occasionally purchase it only because it hides the cold sore very well which I love because we all know how unsightly they are. Personally, I found this product did not work in terms of healing the cold sore, it may have helped a bit but not drastically like some may hope when looking for a treatment. I would buy this if you're looking for a way to hide the cold sore. The medication in the patch is just a small added bonus.
I don't get cold sores very often, but I did find these Polysporin Cold Sore Healing Patches helped take mine away fast. I love that it goes on like a bandaid, and you can hardly tell it's there. I would recommend this product to everyone
I do get cold sores and found these really didn't work. The nice thing about them though, is that it does cover up the cold sore like a band aid so that helps with the cracking and pain associated with cold sores. It kind of camouflages it too which is nice, you can put lipstick over it as well.
I've gotten cold sores all of my life. Imagine finding an invisible product that treats the coldsore and minimizes the pain! The good people of Polysporin have done that, so all you have to do is peel, apply, and go on with your day!
This is my favorite cold sore treatment. It helps to relieve the pain. It is transparent and helps to cover up the cold sore. Defiantly better then the white cream treatments.
I get annoying cold sores all the time! These are by far the best product out there! They take a bit to get used to applying- but that is like anything. My best friend and I swear by them! Everyone who regularly gets cold sores knows there is nothing worse! Using the polysporin patch works best. I highly recommend them and will continue buying them!
The patches are not as easy to apply as they make it out to be.. Attach one side and pull up on the other to attached, each time it streatches the patch. Finnaly attached it after detaching both sides and placing it on. The following morning one section had curled up while I was a sleep requiring me to remove it and replace it.
It also does not completely hide the coldsore unless you are a makeup wearer, which I am not however it does dim down so that it is not as noticable. I love the idea and hope that they work properly next time I need them and if they do, I will be more then happy to update or replace this review.
Used these a few times, work awesome...have tried other brands but these definitely work best. I would recommend them and will be buying them again next time
Well I have been prone to cold sores for years and years. I had such high hopes for this patch but it just didn't work for me. I caught it before the cold sore actually came out but it didn't seem to speed up the healing time at all.
