As a nurse, I have been advised by plastic surgeons never to use polysporin "Cream", only the ointment. Creams create a barrier that doesn't breathe, which can lead to increased risk of infection. The upside to the creams is they usually have a pain killer in them. But is the risk of developing an infection worth the topical pain relieving effects? I think not! I do use polysporin ointment on a regular basis, and it works GREAT, really heals cuts and scrapes fast!
