More granola bar than protein bar
I was expecting a bar more like a traditional protein bar, but these had the texture of a stale granola bar (too hard) and we're also a bit sweet for my liking. The flavours we're good, but I wouldn't reach for this if I was looking for a protein bar.
I received these for free to test as part of the product review club, but opinions are my own.
Can I have some protien with my sugar?
I received the Powerbar Plant Protein Almond, Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate bar for free from ChickAdvisor as part of their product review club opportunity. I was very excited to try a plant based protein bar. I am not vegetarian or vegan, but do try to incorporate as many plant based meals/snacks as possible into my day. At 230 calories per bar this is more of a meal replacement than a snack/post workout option. My biggest concern was the fact that the bar has only 10grams of protein (on the low side for a protein bar) and an equal number of grams of sugar 10grams!!! That is crazy! Add to that 13grams of fat and this is not something I will ever buy or eat again. For a bar that is labeled as almond, sea salt and dark chocolate it was really sweet. Too sweet for my taste buds. I would be better off eating a chocolate bar and not pretending I am eating something healthy.
Good treat
I got this free to try from the product review club. The taste was okay. I liked the crunch of the nuts and the gooey of the chocolate.
That said, this is not something i would eat all the time. The nutritional value is about the same as a chocolate bar. Would use on a hike
Tastes okay, too mich sugar
These taste okay in terms of a protein bar which usually tastes chalky. These taste fine but way too much sugar in them! I like that they have no artificial sweeteners in them. I liked the crunch of almonds but wish there were more in there!
Love that it's vegan but not the fat and sugar content.
I always struggle finding a vegetarian protein bar that also tastes good. I was excited to give the PowerBar Protein Almond Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate. I found the taste to be better than a lot of other bars I have had although it still wasn't something I liked. Other bars leave a weird texture in my mouth and this didn't. I liked that there were natural ingredients. What I didn't like was the fat and sugar content. That is what would keep me from buying these bars.
Tastes great, plant protein
This is a great flavor. The sea salt and chocolate mix really well together. I think the sugar content could be reduced, that is the only thing I would not recommend. I like that it is plant protein. I would use these before and after a workout but the sugar content could definitely be improved.
Too Hard
This bar was on the hard side with it being dry and like a very hard rice krispie square. The chocolate was chalky. The salt on the bar was sharp and really stood out making it too salty.
Too Sweet For Me
Great looking packaging but lack lustre taste for me. I found the bar too sweet and the 10 grams of sugar disappointed compared to other competitors. Interesting texture and taste as the rice product made the bar feel less filling then more heavily based nut bars. Happy to the the NON GMO Project verification and that is a vegan and soy based product. Decent amount of protein. Overall an okay bar that just had too much sweetness for my liking.
Good taste, average macros
This bar was overall pretty tasty but is high in calories. I enjoyed the taste, sweet and salty and I like that this uses plant based protein. I think overall though the carbs and calories are pretty high for a single bar/granola bar. I will stick with higher protein bars. Good option if you're vegan and looking for a tasty granola bar.
