this product made my skin very smooth and its like new again! highly reccomended. only down side is it dries out your skin to much
i was not that impressed with this product because of the fact i could not go to the store and get it. i did not want to use a credit card or go on a mailing list for my skin care. I did find after a few months it worked ok but nothing great. I was also not happy when i stoped use my skin broke out worse then ever. i want a product to be easier
I've tried ALOT of achne products, but this one wasn't for me. I used it every single day, twice a day and I didn't see any results. i canceled my subscription after the second month.
Acne has been an ongoing issue since I was a teenager. Over the last 25 years I have tried all the soaps, cleansers, lotions, etc from the drug store as well as anti-biotics from my doctor. Nothing really worked. Then I decided to try Proactiv since I've seen their infomercials many times over the years. I was amazed at the results after a few weeks. My skin was clearer, smoother, and less shiny. I find it abit expensive but well worth it for the results.
Background: I never had acne when I was a teenager, then adult-hood hit and bam - acne everywhere. Like bad, cystic, painful acne. Tried everything under the sun, nothing worked. At this point I'm desperate and decide to try proactiv - what's the worst that could happen? Three months go by with no results, but the instructions say it takes a while to work, so I keep at it consistently - all 3 steps, twice per day.
Results: After breaking out, drying out, breaking out, drying out, my face starts to get used to the products and my acne clears up. IT TOOK 3 MONTHS BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!
I started to wean off to once/day and this kept my face clear. Eventually, I discontinued the product completely and canceled my subscription. My face stayed clear until some stressful life situations got the best of me and now I'm fully broken out again. BOOurns! So mad.
Moral of the story: Proactiv is pricey, but if you're desperate, it might be worth a try. Just be prepared to make at least a 3month commitment - that's why the guarantee is 90days, because sometimes it takes that long to begin to work consistently. Also be prepared for your skin to dry out. It sounds aweful, but acne bacteria feeds off oil. Until all the bacteria are dead, you can expect dry skin. Then, once you're clear for a month or so, cut back to a "maintenance" dose - the frequency of this will depend on your skin type and "oilyness". Then you can expect to see the drying subside.
Update: Now, I'm on Clindoxyl - benzoyl peroxide (Proactiv's main ingredient) plus an antibiotic (clindamycin). I'm covered through insurance, so the price is zero.
The good thing about benzoyl peroxide is that it doesn't cause resistance like antibiotics. The downside is that it's a free radical. This means it kills bacteria, but it also kills skin cells, hence the drying effect.
Hope this helps anyone struggling with acne. If you choose to try Proactiv, just be ready to stick with it.
Good Luck!
My boyfriend and I ordered Proactiv online - neither of us have bad acne, but get the occasional pimple so wanted to give it a try. We got the kit with the cleanser and repairing mask.
After the first week of use, I managed to strip the colour of my towel and facecloth. This scared me a bit. If it's potent enough to bleach the dye in fabrics, what was it doing to my skin? I discontinued using it after about a month, having seen no noticeable improvement in my skin tone.
When my bf ordered it, he didn't realize he had signed up for the automatic shipment program, so we received another kit in the mail the following month. We canceled our subscription, but my bf decided to continue using the remaining product. I find the smell so strong and revolting, I can't even sleep facing him in bed after he uses it!
I would never buy this product again, largely because I feel like it has chemicals that are much harsher than my regular cleansers.
A worthwhile skincare regime. 5 year user of the 3-step kit which includes the renewing cleanser, toner, and repair lotion. Quickly and completely clears up any blemish I have without flaking or redness when used according to directions.
Cons:The toner and lotion can be irritating to my sensitive skin so I mostly only use the cleanser to keep away breakouts. Love-hate relationship with the auto-shipping.
This is the whole 5 piece proactiv deluxe system that covers all areas of skin needs. It addressed my medicinal need for the breakouts, the dry skin need, the oily areas and deep cleansing and spot needs. The system came with the basic 3 medicines you see on tv the renewing cleanser, toner, repair treatment, then it also had the oil free moisturizer with spf 15, daily oil control to reduce shiny areas the refining mask to deep cleanse and spot treat overnight blemishes and a free sample of the green tea moisturizer. I think for the price its an amazing deal for all the full size products you get in this kit and it last for 2 months and its great twice daily regimen for keeping my skin clear
I had heard a commercial on the radio for this product and there was a special offer where if you called this number you can try the product for $19.99. I had been thinking about trying it and decided to call them and find out more. I called and was talking to a girl who reasurred me the price from the ad. and the delivery cost which in total was like $24.99, so i decided to go ahead and put it on my visa. I had recieved the package about a week and a half later and was floored to see that they had charged my visa $54.00 plus shipping. I had called the company and got nothing but the run around. I was so mad that they didnt follow through with what they had agreed to regarding the price that i refuse to support their product. So if you ask me either way you cannot justify saying one thing and doing another to the people who buy your products!
