It was decent, it wasn't amazing. I found it was too many steps in my daily routine for me to actually make it part of my daily routine. I found myself dreading washing my face.
Sure this product ca work for some people but.. its bleached my skin, my towels, worked then stopped working... i wouldnt waste my money on it.
Whether or not Proactiv works for you depends on your skin and your type of acne. For my husband and his mom it worked really well. For me, it was just too drying for my combination skin. Even after cutting back on the benzoyl peroxide solutions, I found it to make my skin red and I didn't see it working any better for the minimal amount of pimples I had over any other more reasonably priced acne solution.
If you are completely covered in pimples and losing hope, I say give this a try. If you just have the occasional pimple or maybe just one spot that always seems to get pimples, I recommend just buying benzoyl peroxide by itself and using that as a spot treatment. It will work just as good as Proactiv. Use it in combination with a wash or cream that has Salicyic acid.
It also comes down to the price and size of containers. They don't last long if you use them as directed and the price is just way too steep for the average person. Maybe that's why all the endorsers are celebrities. They can afford to spend this much on their skin care.
I do not care for proactive, It leaves my sink feeling too dry and seems to make any outbreaks I have worse, Or brings them on faster. I have used it on and off every time telling me self this time it will work and it just does not in my case.
Proactiv was definitely a solution to my acne. It cleared everything up the way it said it would and my skin looked good. Only problem? My skin became addicted to it--if I skipped a wash or tried to use something else, my skin totally rejected the change. Another issue I had--the effects of the sun on my face. Every time I went into the sun I would want to hide because I knew Proactiv contained bleach and it could not be exposed to sunlight without bleaching my face. It also threw off the PH balance of my skin. I had dry skin before using Proactiv but as I continued to use it, the oilier and drier my skin became. I had no idea what to put on my face (for moisturizer or makeup, etc) because of this tricky new combination. Overall, Proactiv did clear my acne but I am glad I made the switch (after trying hundreds of different treatments) to Arbonne. Arbonne is about the same price but it is actually good for your skin, without all the harsh chemicals. It helped balance out my skin's natural PH so I don't have the same struggle with crazy skin combinations! The best part--I don't even have to use an acne line with Arbonne! So, in the end, its up to you and what you are willing to try to clear up your acne.
I don't have a real problem with acne it is usually just the odd zit or two but I ran into a phase where my skin was just angry! I decided to try the proactive and it cost me 100$ at the mall. After trying it out it really didn't make much of a difference for me than the much cheaper facial cleansers did.
I have acne prone skin and when the proactive commercial came on I was hooked I called my mom in and begged for her to buy. I was in need of a new skin care regime and one that actually would work. I finally got it so happy , after a week a noticed an improvement and then another week came and so did my skin look good not great until my skin began to dry up that caused flakes all around my jaw line and cheeks. Never did I go back to it or their other products. I couldn't believe what chemicals were in these products I guess I wasn't one of those lucky people who turned out to have beautiful skin afterwords.
There are big infomercials for this product, which has been around a long time. Maybe it works great for others, but I have found it to be acceptable at best. Based on my experience, this product over-promises and under-delivers., It doesn't perform significantly better than any other skin care regime I have tried. In fact, many other products worked better.
Therefore, this is not a product I'd recommend or suggest. There are better and less expensive alternatives.
Step 1 (Cleanse): Contains benzoyl peroxide, I liked the tiny beads in this cleanser/exfoliator, it was pretty creamy, didn't really lather up a lot but that didn't bother me, left my skin feeling very clean and smooth
Step 2 (Tone): Was good at removing anything that didn't wash away in the first step
Step 3 (Treat): Contains benzoyl peroxide, was VERY drying even when used once a day every other day
Refining Mask: Didn't really do a lot to improve my acne, but it also didn't worsen anything
Price: The products lasted a long time for me using them twice a day, so I thought the price was pretty reasonable.
My Experience:
I had been dealing with acne for a long time before I decided to try this product. I used this as directed for about a month and a half, following with a moisturizer after the three steps. For the first 2 weeks my skin got much better - My acne was drying up, pimples were smaller and less red. Shortly after this I was breaking out like crazy, but I kept with it because I've heard your skin can sometimes have a "purging" phase. Unfortunately my skin never got any better after this. It started to become extremely dry. In an attempt to help this I reduced how often I used the third step on recommendation given in the packaging . My skin still continued to get drier, and more red, and the acne was just not improving at all. Eventually I chose to stop because I was worse off than I had been before I'd started using the product. I returned it and had no problems getting my money back because they have a 60 day guarantee.
Bottom line: This product did not work for me, but I do know people who have had success with it. Everyone reacts differently to products so it probably wouldn't hurt to try this.
I had really high hopes for this kit, but unfortunately it didn't deliver. It did work for the first weeks but I guess that it was just drying my skin out. It cause my skin more harm than good.
