I used Proactiv for a few years and it worked great, then I noticed that I was slowly getting more zits again. My skin had built up an immunity to the product. It's great product and the mask that comes with it works great as a spot treatment (clears you up overnight!) but it's not for everyone. I have heard other people say that it stopped working for them too after a couple years of using it, but I know others who used it longer than I and continue to use it even now.
The product is a great 3-step system. Your skin feels refreshed after using them and it wasn't too drying (I have a problem with that). I would definitely recommend the product, though you may end up like me and having to switch after a few years to something else.
I've been using Proactive for a few years now. When I first got it, I followed the three steps every morning and night. Cleanser, toner, repairing lotion. It makes my skin soft and tight, but a few days into this routine my entire face started peeling! It was drying my skin out way too much. Now, I use a regular Vitamin E soap cleanser most days. I will use the three step routine a few times a week, and it keeps my face smooth, the colour is a bit more even and makeup goes on very nicely.
I would recommend this if you have acne issues, it does its job as long as you listen to your skin and its reactions.
My every day beauty use to clean my skin. Has helped me clear my skin and been using Proactiv for more than 5 years.
I just started using this product series & it is effective. The cleanser has microbeads which do feel like they are cleaning the skin thoroughly. I also use the toner, repair & 15 SPF moisturizer daily. And the mask weekly.
I haven't used acne products previously, but am impressed that this doesnt seem too drying. I do use an extra gel-based moisturizer because I don't like using SPF products at night and because their moisturizer doesn't seem like it's providing enough moisture.
The only negative point (which I'm still investigating) is that it seems like after I pat my face dry after washing the cleanser off, it seems to be discolouring my towels!
This product did nothing for my acne. I would say I have moderate acne more severe during that time of the month. For the price alone this is not something I would buy again. Its not affordable , and the product SUCK!
Pro-Active... I have a love/ hate thing going on with Pro-Active. All my life I've struggled with acne. It was never severe enough to use Acutane, but over the counter and drug store stuff never seemed to work, and believe me, I tried EVERYTHING!! In my late 20's I finally bought Pro-Active and saw great results! My skin finally balanced. It wasn't too oily, the break outs, if I ever did get them, were really minor and the refining mask worked like a charm to take care of that. On my skin, it worked amazingly! I finally had my friends say that my skin actually looked good. What a great feeling. I even stopped wearing heavy make up! (because that's a vicious cycle- acne, heavy makeup, clogged pores... if you've been there you know.)
I noticed that as soon as I stopped using it, my acne would return. So would the white heads. So I went back on it again. Then I started to begrudge the cost of it. It is really expensive, but it does work- the trick is that being a consumable, it will eat your wallet.
I've been off of Pro-Acvtive for about a year now. I switched to a mineral makeup (Bare Escentuals, I.D.- Sephora) and only use a mild cleanser day and night. I think using it as long as I did and making the switches has balanced out my skin. Maybe I finally grew out of it? It does work. I just hate the price.
This was my solution to all my acne problems. Everything started to disappear within weeks but if you want it to work a little more, go out into the sun, no joke!
This is a great way to combat skin that just won't seem to clear up! I had problematic skin that nothing seemed to work on. It took about 2 months until I really saw a big difference, and I still had some acne pop up.
The only drawback to Proactive is the price. When your desprate you'll try anything no matter the cost, but after a while I got tired of paying so much every 3 months. I used this for about 6 years until I felt my skin was under control and then I made the jump to another product line.
Everytime I see someone with really bad skin I want to tell them- "Try Proactive, you'll feel so much better about your face!"
I absolutely love this product! The few pimples & zits I usually get are large in size. However I have personally seen this product work, first hand. From acne scars and zits to.. well complete smoothness. And my husband wonders why I freak when I run out!
I've never been one to get tons of pimples but when I go they always seem to be HUGE! I started to use Proactiv about 5 years ago and since then I pretty much have been pimple-free!
However what I do find is that it doesn't really do anything for blackheads....I still have some on my nose and even the pro-activ mask doesn't do anything for them :( So while I'm afraid to switch because I don't want to start getting pimples again, I am always on the lookout for new blackhead removal creams or kits or whatever!!
