When I bought the kit the guy said it would take time to work so I used it for a little over a month and found that instead of having breakouts of many small-to-medium sized pimples and blemishes it caused the large painful deep under-the-skin kind of pimples and I still had quite a bit of my regular acne too.
Proactiv is a bipolar acne product.
When I was in middle school I had horrible acne. This wasn't even acne. It looked like little bombs all along my forehead and temples. The "acne" shown in any commercials could have been beauty, with my acne being the beast.
When first using this product, the results are great! After getting to your second or third round of the kit, the results go back to how they originally are. To be honest, I would never recommend Proactiv. It gave me false hope that my acne could ever get better.
Luckily now, in my last year of high school, my acne is controlled but not perfect. I have been prescribed real acne medicine that is keeping it tamed.
My boyfriend and I ordered Proactiv online - neither of us have bad acne, but get the occasional pimple so wanted to give it a try. We got the kit with the cleanser and repairing mask.
After the first week of use, I managed to strip the colour of my towel and facecloth. This scared me a bit. If it's potent enough to bleach the dye in fabrics, what was it doing to my skin? I discontinued using it after about a month, having seen no noticeable improvement in my skin tone.
When my bf ordered it, he didn't realize he had signed up for the automatic shipment program, so we received another kit in the mail the following month. We canceled our subscription, but my bf decided to continue using the remaining product. I find the smell so strong and revolting, I can't even sleep facing him in bed after he uses it!
I would never buy this product again, largely because I feel like it has chemicals that are much harsher than my regular cleansers.
I have had cystic acne for the past two years and can not afford the hundreds of dollars worth of acne products prescribed by my Dermatologist. I then started searching online for affordable acne treatments and found Proactive. I had heard of it before and heard good things so I decided to order it as it was extremely cheap. When I got it I used it until it was gone but had just as much acne as I had before using it. It gaurantees clear skin, however it did not live up to the guarantee. I was extremely disappointed and have since been using products from my Dermatologist and as a result my skin has cleared up completely. Bottom line: please do not try Proactiv if you have cystic acne, instead go see your dermatologist and use prescrition products. However, if you have mild acne, Proactiv may work okay for you.
Didn't like it. Dried out my skin way too much, and I still continued to get cystic pimples. I used this system for 2 months religiously, and my results were no better than what I get from just D/S products. Wouldn't recommend.
I also used Proactiv for 3 years and felt that in the first year or two it worked well but found that it lost its touch after awhile. I also found that if I touched anything after haveing the repairing lotion on my hands that it would bleach any fabric. So if this product does work for you then make sure you wash your hands after applying the lotion. The clay mask is amazing though. It dryes up any blemish overnight. I now use a Hypoallergenic product from Marcelle called AC SOLUTIONS. Much better.
So not worth the money!
You can order the "starter kit" for $19.99, but after that, each box costs upwards of $45!
Aside from the price, the product itself was mediocre and did not clear up my skin. It pretty much just sucked all the moisture out of my skin -- my face was red, irritated, and hurt quite a bit! I found over-the-counter drugstore cleansers to be much more effective (and at a fraction of the cost).
This product did nothing for my acne. I would say I have moderate acne more severe during that time of the month. For the price alone this is not something I would buy again. Its not affordable , and the product SUCK!
Maybe for some people proactiv is effective but for me it did not work well. I have mild/moderate acne that occurs at certain "special" times throughout the month... I tried using proactiv daily but it did not work for me. At first I thought it was working but then the effects seemed to wear off. Maybe my skin became immune to it.
I ordered Pro Active from the TV, I paid about $25.00 for the 3 step Kit, which contained cleanser, toner and repairing lotion. I used Proactiv for about a month and I had the worst breakout I've ever had. BIG red zits all over my face and many smaller ones around them and on my forehead. My skin was completely dried out and felt so unbalanced. I have never felt so bad about my skin. Very disappointing. Maybe works for some people. I regret that I tried it.
