98% OF CHICKS DIG IT
This product I found was a bit time consuming to get it straight and stick . I have to say I am not pleased with this either. Years ago they came out with a product similar to this......didn't like that one either.
I received this product from free from ChickAdvisor because I thought it would a great product to try as I love DIY fixer-upper items where I am in charge. These strips are great and helped me out with my own clothing which pushes me to recommend them.
The Scotch Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips definitely hold, I will say that for them. I was not as excited about the Permanent hem strips as I was about the adjustable hem strips I got to sample for ChickAdvisor. Although I was super excited to hem a pair of my favourite jeans so that they stayed at the length I wanted, I found the process a bit frustrating. The glue or adhesive on the strips is VERY sticky. While this is required to make the hem permanent, it is quite hard to work with. The glue sticks quickly so you need to know exactly where you are putting the strip and you need to be quick, if you're not there will be problems. The backing on the strips doesn't always come off easily so I found I was fighting with that, then my fingers got sticky, then it really didn't peel off nicely...so basically a vicious cycle! I used the product on a pair of jeans and it worked, it held the hem where I wanted it, but some of the adhesive oozed out onto the back of my jeans. I think if I had tried this on a pair of summer slacks, the adhesive may have shown through the fabric, which wouldn't have impressed me so much. From an aesthetics point of view, I missed the actual 'sewn' hem look once I was done; the jeans were not as dressy looking as I had hoped. All in all, the product did do what it claimed and I didn't have to sew, but I probably won't use it again.
This worked well but once you washed your pants it came apart. More trouble than it's worth only because you have to re do it after each wash.
Scotch Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips can avoid you a trip to the tailor but it might also ruined your pants. They are difficult to put on dress pants so I suggest that you practice on an older pair of pants first.
I received this for free as part of the ChickAdvisor product review club. I tried the Adjustable Hem Tape first and must say that I preferred working with that product as you could make adjustments more easily. I found the Permanent Bonding Strips rather sticky to work with but it helped when I used just short strips at a time. It was still rather finicky and I would say it lends itself to just short repairs rather than putting up the hem on an entire pair of trousers for example. Then traditional sewing word work better. All in all, OK but I preferred the Adjustable Hem tape.
Thanks to ChickAdvisor for letting me try Scotch Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips for free. I had recently bought a pair of pants that were way to long. Thought why not use these strips to hem them instead of bringing out the sewing machine. Well, if you make a mistake like I did it's almost impossible to fix it. This stuff sticks like crazy. Definatly works for staying power but man if you make a mistake you are not going to be happy.
