Compared to other sheet masks, this one is lacking.
The product was sticky and tacky, especially after attempting to rub in the excess moisture. There are some non-synthetic ingredients that make this mask attractive, but promising to ‘perfect’ the skin is something this mask doesn’t fulfill.
I will not be purchasing this again. There are other sheet masks that are similar and yet the price is lower.
Not worth it
I was pretty underwhelmed by this sheet mask. Sephora has a whole collection of sheet masks. The pearl one is meant to brighten and even skin tone. My skin definitely sometimes tends towards dullness, and it has some, ahem, memories of pimples past. First problem, the mask sheet was bigger than my face, so it sort of dangled off the edges of my cheeks. Also, the sheet was thicker than other brands I have used, so it felt like more stuff on the face, not as much like a second skin. The thicker sheet meant it was really awkward to fold the edges back where it was flapping off my face and into my hair. Second issue, sheet masks are pricey, and one of the ways to justify the cost is to seal up the packet it comes in and use the extra serum in the days following. This mask had zero extra serum in the packet. Usually these things are swimming in serum. The sheet was soaked through enough, but if you count on extra serum to make them more economical, you won't get that here. That in and of itself is not a deal-breaker, just something to be aware of. My main issue is that this mask didn't really seem to have any real effect on my skin. When I took it off my skin was a bit sticky, and it took awhile for the serum to soak in (expected) but later that evening and the next morning I really noticed no change. If another one of these came my way I'd probably still use it, but I wouldn't buy another one.
I've tried the Pearl and Green Tea fabric masks from Sephora and like the quality of both. They're a wee bit pricey, which is a drawback. The sent of each is subtle and pleasant, and the fabric is thick and stays in place well. I'm a fan of fabric masks in general, but I think I'll stick with the Life brand sheet masks from Shoppers Drug Mart which are about a quarter of the price and just as effective.
Sephora recently released a range of fiber masks, which seem to be extremely popular at the moment. The pearl mask that I tried is designed to perfect and brighten. There are a range of other varieties as well, depending on your skin type and what you are looking to achieve (hydrate, mattify, tone, etc).
Overall, the mask was pretty good. I am a mask junkie, so I have had the chance to try A LOT of products and this one was decent, although not a favourite.
The pros? It's easy to use, and while it is a bit of a gimmick, the fun factor is definitely there. About 2 minutes after applying it, my face felt very cool and refreshed. I left it on for 15 minutes and my skin definitely felt very hydrated and had an extra glow to it. I have sensitive skin, and it didn't irritate my face at all, which was perfect.
The cons? It left behind a sticky residue that I did not care for. The directions indicate that you don't need to rinse your face after using it, but I couldn't stand the filmy feeling, so I did. The only other major con is the price. Each mask is $8, which I think is a little high. I have no problem spending money on a product that leaves me breathless, but this mask left me wanting more.
Overall, I think it's a novel concept and it's worth giving try to see what the fuss is about if you have yet to try fiber or sheet masks. Not groundbreaking, but it's nice for a little self-pampering.
