This sewing machine is definitely for the beginner or hobby sewer who does not sew on a regular basis.
It has a lot of features, with a multitude of stitch patterns that are simple to change with the turn of the pattern, tension, and stitch length dials. Instructions can be found online via the Singer App and the Owner’s Class videos that are available for Singer Sewing machine owners – otherwise, you have to know what the dials mean in order to use the machine.
It also includes several common feet, including a button sewing foot, which makes button hole making SO much easier! This one works pretty well and is easy to use (I found a You Tube video online for instructions).
The LED light is quite bright, and shows me my work both near the needle and several inches beyond without me having to squat my head down close to my projects.
The pedal and the part where the bobbin fits in are made of flimsy plastic, however, despite the quality of the remainder of the machine.
I’ve sewn paper circle garlands and hemmed regular pants & jeans – just move a bit slower with the pedal in order to go through thicker materials. I definitely wouldn’t try more than 3 or 4 layers of jean-type material – it is not built for that kind of durability.
The front bottom of the machine slides off, hiding a cubby hole for your accessories – not in the normal front area that you see in other machines. This makes it easy to hem pants or anything else that requires hemming.
I do like that the bobbin sits underneath the machine under the needle area – this will definitely lead to less issues and jamming in the long run – and isn’t normal with most lower end machines – it’s a surprisingly awesome feature!
The thread cutter at the left side of the machine is also quite sharp and cuts thread ends neatly and with little effort.
I did have issues finding the reverse button (it’s a lever right above the needle area), and the lever to pull up the foot is irksome – placed behind the needle area at the back – definitely not an ergonomic or logical location.
There is no case aside from a fabric cover – but this will help keep dust off of it while not in use.
It is no heavier than my Husqvarna Viking Emerald machine for heavy duty costume making, but definitely noisier.
Overall, the value and quality of this machine is surprisingly great for this price point.
