The book was funny, I'll give it that. I found it hard to stick with though. The advice wasn't overly helpful and I didn't set out to become vegan. It just wasn't what I expected.
This book is written by two models who should probably stick to their day job rather than trying to make it work as legitimate authors. There is some legitimate advice in here and I'll even be honest and say that it helped me finally make the push to pescetarianism. However what really bothered me with this book is summed up by the authors themselves at the end: They wrote it to #1 Make some money and #2 Promote their own agenda. Don't be fooled by the name or cover ... this is not your typical self-help/diet book. If you want to eat heathier that's fantastic. But there are much better ways to go about it then with these propaganda selling non-academics.
While I really enjoyed the insight on what we really put in our mouths, and the attitude in the writing, the point of this book is too convince you to become a vegan. In my opinion, that is unhealthy and unrealistic for most people. I would still recommend it, but take the information with a grain of salt.
I picked this one up at the airport before a 3 hour flight and by touch-down, had finished it. I couldn't put it down, mainly because it contained lots of interesting info that you didn't know along with an undertone of animal rights messaging. Overall, the suggestions they make to lose weight make sense - portion control, reading labels to "eat clean" - if you can't pronounce it, you probably shouldn't put it in your mouth. Most compelling for me was the insight into the hormones that we ingest through dairy and meat. If they're pumping animals full of them, we're consuming them too. I also love the author's observation that animals stop seeking milk after a certain age - then why do humans feel they need it after puberty? As a meat and dairy eater, it did make me think about cutting back a bit.
Sounds heavy but overall an interesting, amusing read with some good facts and opinions. Worth a read if you're into reading about health, diets, etc.
I loved this book! It's the first 'diet' book that I've been able to get through, these ladies are funny and keep you wanting more.
While I don't think I could go completely vegan right off the bat (I love my dairy), I've definitely cut down a ton on eating meat. Just the thought of it makes me feel sick. I've also started reading the labels on everything! The book tells you what to look for and what to avoid.
In a week, I've already made better choices on what to eat. They tell you to think about how your body feels after you eat junk, and I've been doing just that. It helps a lot when I go to grab a bag of chips from my pantry, thinking back to how I felt from a previous junk food item makes me reach for a piece of fruit instead. I already feel better throughout the day, less tired, find it easier to wake up in the morning after eating better the previous day.
Something I loved about this book is that they don't expect you to just change over night! If you don't think you can go completely vegan all at once, they tell you to start by cutting out one bad item at a time. Whether it be quitting smoking the first week, or not drinking coffee, or cutting out meat first.
I also loved the fact that they backed up their facts! The book included a ton of information about the food industry and the different organizations involved. These ladies gave you the cold hard facts on it all, and included a ton of references on their material. As well, at the end of the book you are provided with links to web sites and book titles to check out to help you with your new lifestyle. As well, they provided meal plans for a month, and a huge list of food items to check out. So if you're cutting out meat and dairy, they provided a ton of examples of replacement foods that are just as good!
Seriously check this book out! It will change your life and look on food!

It was in your face, and hilarious.
I found the recommendations to live by in the skinny bitch book to be too hard to live by. BUT...I'll be honest with you I haven't touched meat in two days....also though I am not big on red meat in the first place and was a vegatarien for age 15-16.
I also bought soya milk, haven't eaten cheese, and am giving up the java. I felt grossed out opening a can of tuna today. This book is really graphic,about animal treatment and will scrare the crappers out of you!
These girls are very clever , and know that everyone will spent $$ on a diet book, and no one buys vegan cookbooks.
One thing is for certain....READ YOUR LABELS.I have never felt so aware of want I am eating. This book will make you wake up and smell the coffee (in my case no coffee).... I used to only read the calories, and now I look at the ingredients and read exactly what is going inside me. Use your head >>>>(They says that lots in the book!) if you can't even prononce an ingredient in your food why should you eat it.
wtf??!!I was reading the ingredients on microwave popcorn last night and it says: Contains milk
I devoured this book.

While their tone is like cup of cold water in the face, these bitchy Chicks might change your life. At least they will change the way you think about food.
I am a devout lover of steak. Juicy, medium rare, hot off the grill and covered in sauteed mushrooms. And of cheese. Especially cheese. I love my shaved Parmesan on arugula salad almost every day. I read this book and I lost my appetite. Authors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin really did their research and came up with some really disturbing findings about the way animals farmed and the kinds of chemicals we are ingesting on a daily basis. While I'm not sure I can give up everything on their hitlist, they offer some really healthy alternatives that I'm now excited to try.
Every woman should read this book. Even if you don't agree with everything they say, it gets you really thinking what you put into your mouth. Read the ingredients on everything. Know what you are feeding yourself and your family. Educate yourself.
I didn't read this book because I need to lose weight. It is filled with helpful health advice that applies to everyone. I can't wait to read their next book that recently came out: Skinny Bitch in the Kitch!
