I honestly never wanted an eReader. I'm a huge reader, I have hundreds of books, and I have been reading ever since I was little. I'm the only reader in the family so my family loves to give me lots of reading related gifts (usually a hit with me). When the eReaders and Kindles and stuff came out I instantly decided I preferred the real thing. It's just a preference for me. I also have glasses as I have a hard time seeing close up, and I struggle more so with screens. I end up with bad eye strain. Anyway, my mother purchased the Sony eReader for me one Christmas and I tried to like it. I downloaded a few books, I played around with the (pretty crappy) wifi... Turns out I just don't like eReaders. But this eReader is a pretty basic, low price eReader to start with. No backlight, the wifi loads really grey hard to read pages and really can't handle much. Not to mention that a little while ago they got rid of the Sony Reader for PC, which was the interface for a lot of downloading and management of the software. They replaced it with Kobo Reader I think, but then why not go get a Kobo instead?
Just got my first ereader and I like it a lot. Originally I bought the Kindle Paperwhite but had to return it after I found out it is not compatible with Canadian Public libraries - the main reason I wanted one. This is an entry level basic device that's good if you're using it just to read books. The internet is a bit twitchy so I look up stuff using the home pc first. It's very complicated to set it up with Adobe ID, Adobe Digital Editions, Freading(need to deauthorize computer first, had to research how to do this), Overdrive, Kobo bookstore, and updated software. And considering I'm using it to read free books without making ebook purchases, this is a LOT of work. Once this stuff is taken care of It's a lot of fun and I find I read a lot more now, and it can go everywhere. Btw got this on sale at Shoppers for about $60.
I received the Sony eReader as a birthday gift, and I think to date, it is the best gift I have ever received. I always said i would only read 'real' books....until I got my hands on the Sony eReader. The colour is smoking hot. It's hot pink (they call it red but i say definitely hot pink). That eReader goes everywhere with me! I read books, doodle with it, use the dictionary, i can even log into the local library. I think it is totally worth every penny my boyfriend spent on it. The only thing I wish it had was a built-in light.
