Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out....Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

I read it because I loved the TV show. The books I would not say bad but not for me. They are very teenager read to them. They were not for me
I love reading and I am thoroughly enjoying the vampire theme at the moment. This series is the first adult demographic vampire series I have read and I can't wait to read more.
Ok... I hate to admit that I like and read these books... but I do. They're pure guilty pleasure and pretty fun. Sookie is pretty endearing (even more so than on the TV show), and you can't help but relate to her :) Definitely worth it for a guilty pleasure read.
I read the series to tie me over from season 2 to season 3 of True Blood, I've yet to read the latest book. the tv series does follow the book a bit but they're different enough for me that I enjoy both. I found that some parts get a little long winded when the author starts describing a character, she's goes into a lot of detail down to the brand, style, and model of the shoes and what not. There's quite a few relatively descriptive sex scenes so this is definitely one for the adults.
Overall if you enjoy the tv show that I would say to give this series a try, if you are insanely against spoilers I would avoid it like the plague. Eventhough the tv show and books are a little different a lot of big story features such as Sookie being a fairy and the introduction of witches still are the same.
