The Amazing Spider-Man is a 2012 action film. It is a "reboot" of the franchise, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dennis Leary, and Rhys Ifans.
This is another retelling of Peter Parker's origin story, of how he got bitten by a radioactive spider and got turned into Spider-Man. One of the scientists working at Oscorp has been working on an experiment but it goes awry, turning him into The Lizard, an amphibious creature that goes after Spider-Man.
I had already seen the 2002 film with Tobey Maguire, so I felt like most of this film was something I had already seen or heard of. The origin story is one that most people know by now, so I almost feel ghat they could have eliminated that portion of the film and instead focused on Peter's life after already having become Spider-Man. This would have made the film much more interesting to watch, because I honestly did find it a bit slow in the beginning.
The villain here is different than the 2002 film. Additionally, instead of featuring Mary-Jane Watson as a love interest, they were more true to the comics by featuring Gwen Stacey, who was Peter's original girlfriend in the series. She is a very iconic character and one who has such pivotal storylines later on, so I'm glad they chose her instead.
The chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone is very good, which isn't surprising considering they were dating in real life at the time. I wasn't a fan of the special effects for The Lizard -- he looked really strange and not at all scary. Overall, this is an okay film, but you may or may not find it a bit boring depending on how much you already know about the character.
The film is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 136 minutes.
