I received this product as a review club member. I was skeptical because I do not use a daily moisturizer and was afraid of it making my skin oily. I also use 10% benzoyl peroxide acne wash and treatment and was concerned that it might contribute to my acne problems.
I was pleasantly surprised with this products and will continue to use it daily. The moisturizer is amazingly NOT oily. It does not make me more likely to have oil on my skin throughout the day and has not contributed to my blemish problem AT ALL. It has also prevented extra dryness from my very harsh acne face wash. Additionally, there is a barely-there scent that I don't even notice. I don't put it on and start sneezing like I do with so many other facial products. Also, one squeeze of the pump is plenty for the whole face and neck - you don't have to use too much so the product will last.
The cons are that I haven't noticed any benefits regarding the appearance of fine lines. Also, it does not have sun protectant, so you may want to use a foundation with spf.
I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to keep their skin moisturized and youthful, but is sick and tired of looking oily 30 minutes after putting on moisturizer. It really worked!
While I did not enjoy the scent of this product, I do feel it is very smoothing on my skin. I absolutely love that it is organic. The fact that it is made of natural ingredients really sets it apart from all of the other moisturizers out there. I am also starting to notice that my skin is starting to feel more supple.
I received my bottle of the Nutraganics Serum less than a week ago, so my review is probably not as complete as I would like it to be.
I'll start with the packaging. I agree with other reviewers who said the product does not have enough documentation. No insert, very little info on the box, other than the extensive list of ingredients, in several different languages. The Canadian packaging should just have English and French, along with more product rundown. The only thing I was able to find is where it tells you how to apply it. Other than that, they skimped on info. That really should be fixed.
The bottle itself I like. It's solid, the cap snaps on securely - thank god, because they pump is very touchy - and it blocks out light, which compromises a products freshness as well as stability. No need to worry about that with this bottle. I'm not so sure I'd want it banging around in my bag, though. If the cap were to come off, that dispenser pump would be leaking all over the place.
The product itself is very nice. As I've used a great deal of organic and natural products in my lifetime (god, that makes me sound like an ancient cyclops hahaha) and often make my own products at home, as well as having owned a business which manufactured aromatherapy products in the past, I'm pretty picky. I'm extremely picky. If the label says 'organic' or 'natural' it better be. I scrutinize labels very carefully. I'll pay for a product if it's of good quality, although I really think this one should be priced around $19.99 if The Body Shop would like to get this product moving out the doors faster.
I have to be honest. I haven't bought a Body Shop skin care product in many years. I have never been impressed with their products. I won't even buy their soap. People tend to think they're natural, when in fact, they're really not. So I was extremely surprised when I received the product, especially when I read the ingredients. Quite an impressive list. The first thing I noticed is that there was no fragrance added to it, just essential oils. Perfect for me. I really dislike added fragrance in skin care products. 100% unnecessary. It also didn't list any parabens. Really? Surprising. I'm still wondering what they used as a preservative, as well. Even happier to see it includes jojoba oil, not an oil - actually - a wax, which is supposed to normalize sebum production. Meaning less breakouts and skin issues. So far so good.
The fact that it has salicylic acid in it made me happy. That means you're going to get a little bit of skin cell renewal going on. Always a good thing. Rose oil is also very anti-aging, and the essential oils used give the product an extremely fresh, light smell. Litsea Cubeba is one of my favorite essential oils of all time, and I rarely see it in products. It blends very well with the Thyme and Orange oil.
The texture of the serum is beautiful. Light, cooling, refreshing, non sticky, doesn't feel oily. One pump will cover your entire face, but be prepared to use more to do your neck and eyes. All women should be looking after their neck area religiously. As well as their eyes. Interestingly, the product info doesn't say whether or not it's safe for use around the eyes. After reading the ingredients, I was 100% sure it was.
After applying, your skin looks a bit glowy. Not so much oily, just glowy. That's nice, especially seeing as it doesn't include any synthetic optical enhancers in it. I found that since I've been using it, I can go without moisturizer. I tried that a couple of days in a row but returned to using it after that as I'm pretty religious about my skin care. My mineral makeup goes on extremely well after applying this product.
As far as fine lines go, it does keep them looking pretty toned down, especially around my eyes, but I can't say it has done anything completely amazing for any wrinkles, big or small. Keep in mind, I've only been using this for about 6 days. There's also the fact that it doesn't claim to be a wrinkle killer. Just a 'smoothing serum'. Which is fairly vague. I'm a bit confused as to what exactly it's supposed to do.
The only down side to this product is that I notice I'm getting far more pimple than I normally do, especially around my chin, nose and forehead. I'm a tad confused about that, as it is a very good product. The only thing I can really put it down to is the olive oil, which is the first oil on the label. I have never had a problem with jojoba oil in my life and have even used it straight and unrefined on my face as a moisturizer.
I'd definitely recommend this to friends and family, as it's very natural, has many organic ingredients and has a very natural scent. I'm not sure how many would buy it, though due to the cost. I really do think the price should be reduced to just under $20 Canadian. As for sensitivities, I doubt very much that many people, if any, would have an allergic reaction to this. In my experience, if my skin is going to react badly to a product, it will do so within the first 24 to 48 hours. It was fine with this product. So I'm quite confident that people I know would do well with it as well. In addition, although I really like the Smoothing Serum, I'd love to see some lactic acid in it for some extra skin cell renewal/exfoliation, as well as less olive oil and more jojoba oil in it. It could also do with some sea buckthorn oil in place of the olive oil and some antioxidant oils such as black currant, along with a good dose of rose hip oil, and even a bit of castor oil. As I said, it's very good, but could use a little bit of tweaking. Overall, though, I'd say it's pretty durn good :-)
Thanks very much to The Body Shop and Chick Advisor for the opportunity to test and review this product. It has actually renewed my interest in The Body Shop. I'll definitely be stopping by there the next time I'm in the mall and check out what else new is happening. I'd suggest the shop hand out some free samples of this new line to potential buyers to peak people's interest. As I said, had I not had the opportunity to try this for a week before buying, I would have, without a doubt, passed it by. It has definitely made me interested in the other products in the Nutraganics line, which I will more than likely be trying out. Very interested to see what the moisturizer would do for my skin :-)
Thanks again :-)
I got to test the Nutriganics lotion for the Review Club and at first I was skeptical that it would actually work. I don't have that many fine lines to begin with, but if this would keep them at bay, go for it. I was on and off the 2x a day usage, mainly because of the heat, but I loved the smell and how my skin felt after putting it on. I did start to see the lines on my neck dissipate, but only when I was religiously using the product, if you go off a day or so, they come back.
I would recommend it because a little of the serum goes a long way, and the price overall is pretty good compared to department brands. It isn't greasy at all, and instantly absorbs into the skin with an immediate glow effect.
I will probably buy another, and am curious to see how long the bottle will last.
I have been using this product for about 10 days. At first, I was using it twice a day, morning and night. But it's summer time and I have combination skin, so I find it too rich to use during the day. I do like using it at night, especially after removing my make-up. I find my skin needs extra pampering after being covered with make-up and dirt all day long.
I apply the serum all over my face and neck and it leaves my skin feeling very soft and smooth. I don't like the smell of the serum but it dissipates very quickly, so it's okay. Overall, I don't find it made much difference to my skin. I think my skin was good before using this product. Maybe 10 days is not enough to see its full effect.
I think $25 is a good price because I've paid much much more for moisturizing serum from other department store brands. Also, this product uses all natural ingredients and that alone is well worth the money. Furthermore, even though the bottle is small, a little bit of serum goes a long way. This product probably last a long time. So while this isn't the best facial product I've tried, I think I will definitely buy it again, probably in the winter when my skin is drier and needs that little extra boost of moisture.
I always love to try out new beauty/skin care products. The first thing I noticed about this product was the scent. I did not really care for it. It reminded me of dill pickles and then when it dried it smelled like black pepper. Other than the smell, I think this is a good product. It was more of a VERY light lotion that blended in like a serum and it absorbed very quickly and left my skin feeling smooth and soft. I like the light weight of this as my skin tends to get very oily and so this was great on my skin. Though I could not use it in my tzone, because of my oily problems, I did use it on my cheeks and around my mouth and of course on my chest and neck. This is a great product for women that don't mind the "natural organic" scent to it. Good product, and does make my skin appear smoother.
I really liked the organic smell of it. It did soften my skin a bit and was light-weigh unlike some of my other moisterizers that I use. I feel like this is a high quaility product.
As a moisturizer I do feel that it lacked that effect.
I was all for the fact that it was organic based moisturizer, but honestly it did not do the job my current(Olay Regenerist) does. I liked the scent, for a serum I thought it was on the thicker side, almost like a lotion, but not as thick, which I liked...but the moisturization was lacking...my skin looked duller, and dry, I also had some breakouts as others reported. Personally for the price, I'm content spending almost the same price on my Olay which works. Thanks for the opportunity to try this product, but it's just not worth it in my opinion.
I only just received my latest Product Review offer: The Body Shop's Nutriganics Smoothing Serum, last week. I was thrilled to be apart of this Product Review!
My findings, so far: really softens my skin...without leaving any residue what so ever. Leaves a nice matte look after I apply the serum. I have been applying the serum morning and night as directed on the package, and so far I am really enjoying using the product! Really softens my complexion and makes me feel good to know I am using a product that promotes and supports, Community Trade.
There is a light scent of thyme, and the formula also contains organic olive oil which I love too! So far I am finding that this serum is doing exactly what is says it will do: softens, revitalises and improves skin suppleness. Exactly!
I am also finding it amazing that this serum contains both olive oils and babassu which do not leave a shiny or greasy mess behind. The product is easily absorbed by my skin, and I find it very comforting to wear, even on my sometimes sensitive skin.
For anyone who wants to help stop the appearance of aging on their face, or for anyone who just wants to give their skin and extra boost of hydration....I wholeheartedly recommend The Body Shops Nutriganics Smoothing Serum. I will definitely be buying another bottle when this Product Review freebie is done!
