The DivaCup is AMAZING. No more carrying around, buying/storing, and throwing away oodles of tampons or pads. No discomfort, no itching, no running to the bathroom every few hours. Empty it morning and night and that's it. It took me two days to figure out how to make sure it was inserted properly (I used liners as back up) and then I was good to go.
It's perfect for everything. You don't have to worry about going swimming, camping, anything. Just bring your tiny little cup in it's provided cute little bag and that's it. Period.
This product completely freaked me out (at first). Between being the most clumsy person you will ever meet, to having a "thing" about a mess this was definitely not something I was jumping to try. One of my co-workers told me about this so I figured I'd give it a shot after a long convo. I'm still a bit torn, I think after you figure out the best way to get it in properly the coverage is amazing however the idea of having it in (and worse, REMOVING it) is something I still have to get over. Revolutionary product, defintely "green" but I'm not so sure I can be convinced this is for me.
I was a little skeptical when I got my first Diva Cup over 2 years ago because it was such a different concept from using pads or tampons. Once I started using it, I was very excited about it and LOVE using it. I love that I don't need to worry about running out or having a product with me when I go out because I'm already wearing it. I love that it's enviromentally friendly and very discreet. It's also very easy to use. In the whole time I've been using it, I've only had 1 leak and that was human error on my part. I highly recommend this product!
I just want to share a story with you...a family member of mine was using this...She than had a severe infection and couldnt figure out what it was caused from...she ended up in icu and had to have surgery to remove the pus from her insides! Caused by the infection...she was on life support....The infection was related to this "Diva Cup" I will be honest and say I do not know a lot about this product so I do not know if you are to sterilize it between each use or what the safety precautions are but I just wanted to put this out there...Be careful....She almost lost her life.....
Lets face it, it pays for itself. Been a faithful user for about 15yrs and think it's one of the best inventions ever. Women who've never tried it are seriously missing out. They use to say it lasts forever, now I see the site says it's a general guideline to get a new one yearly. If you're too lazy to give it a good clean up once in a while, perhaps but otherwise, it should be find for many years. I found i had to switch sizes as i aged but it was still worth every penny. I used to be a super heavy bleeder and would bleed through a super plus tampon and a pad in a 3hr university class. Well, the diva cup was the solution for me and on those deluge days I'd wear a back up pad. As my flow changed, no pads ever. Best of all, when you go swimming, you don't suddenly realize in embarassment that your string is showing. The diva cup and a couple ibuprophen and you feel like you're not even having a period for 12hrs. Also, for any moms, i have yet to find a research where anyone has had toxic shock from this product so safety is greater than tampons.
I thought about getting a Diva Cup for a while before I actually took the plunge and purchased it. $40 is a pretty hefty price tag for a "period item," and who knew if I'd even be able to wear it? However, one day I was reading something and had a realization... Can you imagine the sheer amount of waste that we create with our periods? As a new mom I'd done a ton of reaserch on disposable diapers versus cloth, and I absolutely knew that I would be happy to take on the extra work of cloth rather than polluting the earth with yet MORE waste. Why hadn't I felt the same about throwing away countless pads and tampons month after month? Anyway, aside from the huge environmental implications, I realized that the $40 price isn't really that much at all. If you're spending $5-$10 per period on pads or tampons (and they do add up!) you've made this purchase worthwhile in no time.
And onto the best part: the diva cup works. I always put it in first thing in the morning and empty it last thing at night, and I've never had a leak. I rarely wear underwear, and I don't even have to now when I have my period (gross, I know.... But I don't have to!). Anyway, the Diva Cup is incredibly comfortable, reliable, and good for the earth and for your health. If you're considering it - do it! I'll never go back to conventional products. :)
This thing is AMAZING. I am very eco-friendly and budget friendly.. lets face it, tampons and pads ADD UP.
This product is not for the weak stomach I must admit, if you can't handle getting a little fluids on your hand while learning to use this, it is NOT for you. But the benefits of it include, it is REUSABLE, DOES NOT LEAK, COMFORTABLE, HEALTHY (NO BLEACH, NO CHEMICALS), AFFORDABLE !!!
$40 for one cup. I have two for back up but it last forever as long as you clean it and take care of it properly. Just amazing.
The idea of this grossed me out a lot at first, but after getting sick of leaks, etc. I though I'd give it a try, and boy am I glad I did! I have not had one leak since I bought this about a year ago and I sometimes forget I'm even wearing it! It can be worn overnight for up to 12 hours without the risk of TSS that tampons have and without the leakage of pads.
I've been using the Diva Cup for 3 years now. I wasn't too keen to try it out, because honestly, it sounds gross. BUT after reading reviews, comparing the costs of disposable items, I decided to give it a shot.
It does take some trial and error, I used it for a few cycles, gave up for a few, and then went back to it. Now, it's nothing. It's easier and less mess than a tampon or pad.
It's been a long time since I've had a leak or a mess, and I don't even notice it's in there! And really, who wants to have to run to the pharmacy each month?!
I've used it for 8 years- I have 5 pins to show each of my purchases. I keep one at home and one at my office- just in case. I HATE being without it.
Fabulous invention!
