Like that it's not as deep as a bowl but not as flat as a normal plate, and does have a rim to where baby cannot push food off of it so easily when trying to grab/scoop. Like that one section is bigger than the other 2 so that you can put main dish there and the other for sides. Suction cups function well

The First Years Inside Scoop Plate with Suction Base works perfectly for us. Unlike others we’ve had in the past that have one big suction cup on the bottom, this plate features 3 small suction cups on the bottom to hold it down so little hands cannot throw their entire meal off of the tray/table/wherever you have your little one seated (as long as it’s a solid flat surface where the cups can cling). The suction cups work so well that our little one has almost pulled up the top removable part of her high chair tray, in efforts to get that plate out of her way and into the floor like she’s done with plates of food in the past. Also, the shape of the compartments and the “inside scoop” feature is great for my little one dealing with slippery finger food. It has also has show quite helpful with her learning to use utensils, and helping her get the “stick and scoop” maneuver figured out. I know this is the intended benefit of this product, but feel the quality and effectiveness of the suction cups are definitely worth raving about. I HIGHLY recommend this product and will definitely be buying them for baby gifts in the future.
