The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Reviews
#1 in Books

Description

Publisher's Description:
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I am glad that I made the decision to see what these books were all about, I didn't think that I would be very interested in them at first, but I was definitely wrong! I couldn't put them down!

I saw the movie before reading the books and wasn't particularly impressed. I thought the movie was awful actually. A friend kept insisting that the books were a thousand times better, so I finally caved and read them. She was right! The characters are compelling and the plot is action packed. It's one of those series where you just have to keep reading to find out what will happen next. So glad I gave in and read them!

I started reading the first book on a Friday night and had to go back to the store for the other 2 books on Sat. night. I loved the story line and couldn't put it down. Even my 11 yr old daughter started reading them

I bought and read the first book inside of a weekend and within two weeks I had completed the entire series. I loved this story, kept me interested and turning the pages but I have to say that I hated the ending.

Started reading these when they were loaned to me and I ran out of other reading material. Figured they would just be a quick easy read just to occupy my brain without actually using it or being really involved. Was surprised when I was unable to put down these books I thought were just for teenage girls. Read them all in two nights, was exhausted at work. I'm 54 and an avid reader, enjoyed these very much, haven't given them back yet, planning on reading them again.

So the series is quite expensive in my opinion but it was a great read for myself and my older teenage daughters. So the books were worth the investment

I love these books. Unlike some of the other teen books these days the female is strong and independent and smart. Not only did I like it but my husband liked it and some men in my office so it's not just for girls. :)

Although these books are geared more towards teens, I had to read them. Once I started, I couldn't put them down!! They really do a good job of sucking you and wanting to keep reading to find out what happens.
