Inexpensive
I have yet to find a perfect primer that helps my foundation last and not seperate throughout the day. However, as an inexpensive primer this compares to some of the very expensive ones. It does a decent job.
If you're looking for cheap (and not bad) - this is it
There are lot of bad primers out there - and this isn't one of them. But that is not to say that this is good. I decided to try out this primer because of its price. It literally cost $4-5 for such a big tube.
(I actually stopped using primer for a while because I've been trying to reduce the number of steps in my morning/makeup routine. Plus it was costly and I don't have terrible skin that absolutely begs for a primer.) After this tube runs out, I don't think I will repurchase. This primer works just fine, but there's nothing revolutionizing about it that my skin needs it. If anything, it is increasing a step in my beauty regime.
Does not prime
I was so excited when this was finally in stock at my local store considering everyone was raving about it. However, there is nothing special about the Ordinary primer. Actually it is just Ordinary, maybe even subpar.
The pro - the price! You can't beat $4.50 for a primer. The packaging. I like how it is minimal and is not over packaged.
The con: This does not smooth and perfect like a primer should. As others have said, it only added an extra layer of moisturizer. It would be okay if you are not battling any skin issues, however for someone who has dry skin and is starting to show signs of aging, this primer does not do what I need to.
still shiny
The primer still left my skin very lily and shiny. Maybe it would work better with a different foundation but I doubt it. So far my drugstore primer out performs this.
It's name isn't doing it any favours. Just plain Ordinary.
Might be worth every penny but it also doesn't cost many pennies. I was hopeful that I would like the primer especially because of the low price tag, but I guess you get what you pay for. I didn't find this product did anything for me any more than adding an extra layer of moisturizer below my foundation. Which for me was redundant. The product having a very similar consistency as moisturizer applied smoothly but wasn't what I was expecting from a silicone primer. I didn't notice any blurring as it advertises and possible just minimal surface smoothing. It didn't however make my foundation last any longer than if I wasn't wearing it, which made me question why bother using this product at all. Therefore I doubt I will repurchase this product and I guess I'll have to suck it up and pay more to get an effective primer.
SO good!!!
I can't recommend this primer enough - it is an incredible value. It gives my skin the nicest texture and smoothness and my foundation lasts all day. It also provides just enough hydration that my skin doesn't get flaky or patchy after a few hours. Seriously, this stuff makes my skin look flawless no matter which foundation I'm using. I'm on the waiting list for their foundation as well and I imagine the combination of the 2 will be amazing!
My thoughts on the highly raved The Ordinary Primer
When this blew up on youtube, I decided to give it a try. It is a very affordable product, i got it for only CA$4.90 plus tax.
the product itself looks like a regular moisturizer and it somehow feels like it but there's a touch of that silicone-y feeling but not too slippery like other silicone primers. It claims to mattify, hydrate and blur pores and I think it does all that to certain extent. When Applied,it makes the skin feel smooth making make-up application easier, but it doesn't totally cover big pores. In terms of longevity my face became very oily only after 3 hours. Aside from that, foundation always gets rubbed off my nose when I use this primer.
For the price, it's an awesome primer. As for how it works, maybe it just depends on your skin type an preferences but for me it didnt help too much since what i wanted was a mattiying and pore filling primer that would make my makeup last all day
