The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella Reviews
#996 in Books

Description

Publisher's description:
Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She's made a mistake so huge, it'll wreck any chance of a partnership. Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she's mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they've hired a lawyer-and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can't sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope-and finds love-is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake. But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does…will she want it back?

I love all of Sophie Kinsella books. I bought this book and read it. It was a fun read and was cutesy. I recommend it as a light summer read on the beach. I have re-read it a few times and I still like this book.

I read the Undomestic Goddess when it came out a couple of summers ago. It’s a great light summer read that isn’t overly serious. I didn’t find it as good as Sophie Kinsella’s other books, but still worth reading. It was rather predictable, but really funny at parts, which would keep me reading. Yes, I’d recommend this book to other female readers.

I really liked the book. I usually stick to more dramatic hitting novels but every so often like a nice light read. And this satisfied my urge. I really like Sophie's books and wasn't dissappointed with this one. Yes it was a little unreliastic, but the reason I like to read these types of books is to escape reality for just a bit. I found Samantha to be the opposite of her previous character Becky, as she is smart and gutsy and makes her easy to root for. It's a nice light romance with a dash of humour.

Samantha Sweeting is a young lawyer who is about to make partner when she realizes that she’s made a horrible careless mistake. In a hysterical daze she flees her office and ends up on a train going out of the city. Samantha ends up in the country where she finds herself in the home of a woman who had been expecting her new housekeeper. Samantha for some inexplicable reason does not correct the woman and ends up living in her home and acting as a housekeeper. The situation is made even more hilarious by the fact that Samantha’s domestic expertise pretty much ends with ordering take-out. The storyline is pretty unrealistic, and the whole time you wonder why Samantha doesn’t just come clean, however it still has the same charm as Kinsella’s other novels, and you will laugh just as much. The ending is rather predictable, but if you want a light book and a good laugh I would recommend this novel, perhaps as a beach read.
