I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, and perhaps it was because I was expecting an epic adventure instead of a children's book. The plot moved too slow for me, however that's because I wanted to explore the world and the characters more. It still was a nice read, but it was a disappointing one nonetheless. I guess this is what happens when people see the movie before they read the book! Although even if I hadn't seen the movie, I would've felt let down by the lack of depth.

It was nice to see how everything was originally, though - especially the characters. And even thought the plot wasn't rich, it did flow rather well - at least, until the story continued after Oz "granted" the wishes, though (it felt a bit strange and oddly placed). The best part was how Oz tricked the scarecrow, the tin man, and the lion into thinking that he had granted them what they were already capable of getting - that alone saved the book for me.

I wish I had read this when I was younger, and before I saw the movie, because I think I might've given it a different review. Regardless, I'm glad I read it because it is interesting to see the original (just as I had done with The Phantom of the Opera) and what came from it.

I am older than I should be for reading this book the first time. However it was on my daughters book shelf and I had never read it so figured 'why not?'.

I got to say I sorta enjoyed it. For a book of that time period it was pretty descriptive and interesting.

I love how the tin man, lion and scarecrow wants the one thing that they already have inside but they have to still get the great and terrible Oz to give them physical forms of these items when they truly had them all along but were not confident enough in themselves to realize it.

I think a great descriptive book to read to a younger child to help peek their imaginations.
