Great book
I recall reading this novel back in high school and have to say it was a pretty good novel from what I remember, and I'm not a huge reader myself but I liked the plot as well as the characters overall and the message behind it.
This is one of the best books I've ever read. I was first introduced to it in 10th grade, and I have read it many times since. I believe it made an impact on my life and how I view others. Great book!
I watched this last night; totally rapt by this movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat for sure. It starred gregory Peck. Yes it is an oldie but well worth the watch.
To Kill A Mockingbird has thrived through the decades. It altered my perspective of racism and courage. Courage is shown in Mrs.Dubose, Atticus, Scout, and more, represented in myriad ways that do not include charging into a battlefield.
The characters are realistic, although some may argue that Atticus's personality is too mild and saintlike to be true. However, that is combated in the sequel. Atticus is devoted to justice, not curing racism. He didn't defend Tom Robinson because he's an African-American, but because he was wrongly accused of a fatal crime.
Suspense steadily builds until the Tom Robinson case, and then accelerates. When the result was released, suspense drops, and builds again at Halloween, and reaches a second peak when Mr.Ewell attacked.
Since I don't come from Southern U.S., I found the dialect moderately challenging. The vocabulary was from the 1960s, so it was also tough. But guess what, I finished. That's why I recommend TKaM to ages 11 and up. Anyone can read the novel with effort!
Loved this book, had to read it in high school and most of my classmates had a great time reading this.
this novel is truly a classic! usually, when a book is turned into a movie, the book is better. but the novel and movie are equally wonderful. Harper Lee is a genius, considering the time when she wrote this novel. this novel brings you back childhood memories, innocence is truly a wonderful thing. there are also a lot of moral lessons in this story. i highly recommend this novel and movie to teens and adults.
This should be a must read for everyone. Intelligent, well written and universal meaning. We all know a "Boo Radley" and this book will help you embrace their goodness.
The novel is renowned for its warmth and humor, despite dealing with the serious issues of rape and racial inequality. The narrator's father, Atticus Finch, has served as a moral hero for many readers and as a model of integrity for lawyers. One critic explains the novel's impact by writing, "In the twentieth century, To Kill a Mockingbird is probably the most widely read book dealing with race in America, and its protagonist, Atticus Finch, the most enduring fictional image of racial heroism.
Gregory Peck gives an Oscar winning performance as lawyer Atticus Finch. This movie brings to light the racial inequality at a time when race issues were running rampant in America. A classic book that gives an honest portrayal. So many baby girls were named for Atticus's curious daughter Scout and the author Harper Lee.
