This product is amazing! This really IS insurance for your best looking eye shadow. It is an eyeshadow primer , applied to the eyelid before the cosmetics. The product is skin toned, and a little goes a long way. It seals and preps the eyelid to give a perfect base for either cream or powder eyeshadow.
Shadow insurance makes any eyeshadow super blendable, intensifies the color, and helps prevent flaking, creasing, blotching, or melting until you remove your makeup. It extends the coverage of your shadow, therefore you don't have to use quite as much product to get a beautiful effect.
This product is one of my absolute faves. It goes on so silky and smoothly. It makes even inexpensive eyeshadow or the most boring shades look like a million bucks. This is definitely one of my cosmetic bag MUST HAVE items!
Works great and every time I used this my eye shadow holds up for several hours without any creasing, melting or fading. I really like that it's a tube and easy to squeezing it out.
I use this every day and am surprised how long it is lasting. I squirt a bit onto my finger and it is enough for both eyes.
By habit I put a MAC paint overtop, but I have always used paints under my eyeshadows, so I don't think it is necessary.
My eyeshadow never creases and lasts all day and night. The tube is much better designed that the urban decay product.
After seeing quite a few good reviews on other sites about this product, I was determined to try it. The package advertising states it gives you creaseless eye makeup and vibrant colors from your ordinary eyeshadow. It was definately still creaseless after a full day, but I honestly didn't see any difference in the vibrant color department.
The price is also a little hefty for such a small tube, but you don't use very much and I'm sure it will last me quite awhile. I did like how quickly it absorbs into your skin, as I was afraid it would leave a slightly greasy, silicone film.
Over all, a good product and I will buy it again!
Shadow Insurance is always my go to product when I need a good primer for my eyes. I have used UDPP and Quo Cosmetics Eye Primer but for me both pale in comparison to Shadow Insurance. I find UPDD too pink for my skin and heavy. The color of Shadow Insurance closely matches my own skin tone and gives eyeshadow long lasting staying power on my combination skin.
I have pretty oily skin, so I have a hard time finding something that will make my eye shadow stay the whole day. I had been using MAC paint as a base, and even concealer, both of which didn't last the whole day.
I purchased this product upon recommendation from an employee at Sephora. I have to say that I love it! My eye shadow now will last and doesn’t crease. It even works on shadows which have a lot of sparkle. Though it isn’t not cheap, you don’t need a lot to make it work.
I would suggest this to anyone who wants their shadow to last all day!
What I liked about it:
It actually works! It really keeps your eyelids from being an oilslick at the end of the day. I've tried L'Oreal De-Crease as a base at one point in my life only to have it end up as an epic fail! I normally opt for my MAC paint pots as a base for my eyeshadow or just a base to help my eyeliner stay put and prevent it from creasing (meaning preventing your black eyeliner to some how find its way to travel up to your crease). However, due to the sweltering heat we're experiencing in California, my usual MAC paint pots by itself are currently no good. So I opted to try for another base which can save my eye makeup from fading or creasing and has led me to try this awesome product. What's also good about the Too Faced Shadow Insurance is it dries up transparent in your eyelids and instantly. There's really no drying-time unlike the L'Oreal De-crease which took forever to sink into my skin. Another good thing about it is it lasts for a really long time. The product packaging is also better than UDPP and L'Oreal De-Crease since it doesn't use a wand to get the product out. It comes in a squeeze tube so nothing really goes in the product, just out keeping bacteria away. And there's also no need for you to break into the tube and then storing it in another container just to get all your money's worth.
What I don't like about it:
When I directly put eyeshadow on top of the Shadow Insurance, I actually had a bit of a hard time blending my eyeshadows. But that can be fixed by layering your Too Faced Shadow Insurance with cream-based product you have available such as MAC paint pots for better blending. It is also more expensive than UDPP by a couple of bucks which can turn-off some people into buying it. Although the packaging seemed to be more sanitary compared to other eyeprimers, the tube can go through possible, unexpected mishaps such as squeezing the tube too hard causing too much product than you orignally intent or worse, accidently puncturing the tube with something sharp in your makeup bag. Other than that, I can't think of anything else bad about it.
Will I buy it again?:
Most definitely! Although I haven't really tried UDPP (so I can't say much about that), I just don't believe in using a wand to apply my eyeprimer or breaking through the packaging so I just feel that I'm not getting ripped off. Although Too Faced Shadow Insurance is a few bucks more, it is still more sanitary than other eyeprimers and it has a great staying power that keeps my lids oil-free.
