I found this for half price at No Frills. It looks like actual sugar, but certainly does not taste like it. I have tried a few other brands currently on the market because my husband is diabetic. When I added it to my coffee, or iced tea, it made them taste very bitter. I think that it costs more than other brands that are currently on the market so I do not plan to purchase this product in the future.
Not A Straight Swap For Sugar
Truvia is a calorie-free sweetener from the stevia leaf and can be used as an alternative for sugar.
I love to have sugar in tea, but was tempted to try this product as a healthier alternative. However, I found that if you are looking for a straight forward swap, then this will not do. It has a VERY distinct taste. (I was not a fan but my boyfriend did like it.) But we both agreed that there is no chance that you could be fooled into thinking it is sugar.
Overall, I suggest trying a sample of this first as the flavour is 'love it or leave it' and it costs a lot more than regular sugar.
It is not really sweet. The packets are so big and they don't do really much. It is a healthier option than the artificial no-calorie sweeteners I normally use, but for the price I pay I'd rather buy the ones I use at the moment.
Always on the search for a sugar substitute, I tried Truvia. I have tried pure Stevia and don't care for the after taste. Since Truvia is a blend, I thought it might be more tolerable. It still has an after taste, just not as harsh as pure Stevia, but it makes my tongue feel tingly. Considering the 270 gram container cost me almost $ 7.00, I think I will stick with generic sucralose for my sweetener.
