Cute paper bags
My favourite thing about this service is that it’s a grocery delivery service. I wish I could say that the service stands out above the other services just like it however, it just doesn’t. I order my groceries, pay for them, and my groceries get delivered in cute paper bags by a person driving a van. Same as any other delivery service I have used. I do Like the paper bags though.
Easy Grocery
Overall It was a good experience. Delivery is very fast. We can do express delivery too. But there are limited items available. I couldn’t find few items for my shopping.
Expensive and does not follow instructions
I ordered from voila after receiving an offer for free product, was also offered free delivery for signing up for a month trial of delivery pass. When ordering delivery pass was not offered at checkout and the option was not very visible so I ended up paying a high delivery fee.
I scheduled a delivery with specific instructions to leave order at front door for contact free delivery and to minimize noise for a sleeping baby.
The driver phoned ahead to “check a few things” and then had no questions. He then ran the door bell (although I specified we had a video doorbell and it would notify us, and stayed at the door until we came out to get the delivery directly from him.
Bell rang, dogs barked. Baby woke up, to had to go outside in my Pajamas to accept delivery.
Order appeared correct and produce was chosen well. No substitutions were made.
Money down or no delivery
Before using Voila, I used another competitor service. Biggest difference isn’t just the varying prices of products in each store, but in the billing for the service. Voila will bill the customer prior to picking the groceries. Normally not a big deal, but if your cheque doesn’t hit your bank account first thing, Voila automatically cancels your order. The competition just keeps trying to bill your account/card in order to deliver your goods. I will def be returning to the competition! Better luck next time, Voila!
Not worth it
The butterly task was not worth it for me and it was a money grab to spend a certain amount to get a certain amount off my order. It's not a trial it's a business technique.
Okay
Having used several grocery delivery services I was disappointed with Voila. The produce was poorly selected and almost everything was at the best before date.
Too high grocery prices and long wait
Comparing with other grocery delivery services, products from Viola are more expensive, plus delivery on the same day is not possible, minimum the next day.
Okay
I regularly use Walmart pickup or even instacart (which I also drive for) so I'm familiar with this concept. I went into this thinking the items would be more expensive because obviously safeway vs walmart... so, yes, most items were more expensive. They did have some sales that were then cheaper. I also find their produce much better.
There were a few things for me that decreased my rating.
First, the cost for delivery is huge in my opinion. A minimum of $10 a month and that limits you to only weekday deliveries. The larger issue is that pickup is not available at most stores yet. So you HAVE to get it delivered unless you're driving to the other side of the city.
Second, you HAVE to be home and answer the door or they will not leave your groceries. I get why, but there should be an option to leave at door, and the customer is responsible then if the groceries sit too long or are stolen.
Third, they charge you 5 cents per bag but don't give any options to not get bags?
Last, the upselling while ordering is insane. You have to scroll down through ~50 items in order to get to the checkout screen. It's a little ridiculous.
So I'd say this is an "upscale" grocery service. If you can afford it and don't mind waiting around for your groceries, then you'll definitely get better produce and items. But if you want to save money or like more convenience, I wouldn't recommend Voila.
It needs a few updates
I really has high hopes for this grocery delivery service but I was let down
Pros:
- It was easy to register
- My delivery was accurate and arrived on time
- The paper bags were nice and only .15
Cons:
- There were no pickup locations near me so I had to choose delivery
- I was not able to order sliced deli meat from the deli counter (prepackaged only)
- I was charged more than the flyer advertised price on an item so I had to email customer service.
- I was never asked to add my Scene + card so I don't get any points. I found out AFTER that you have to go in and add the card to your profile.
- $7.99 for a delivery fee is too high.
- I was not able to customize my produce request (yellow bananas, soft avocados etc)
I made my first order on Voila on 2 December 2022 for a scheduled pickup on 5 December 2022. The item I ordered that day is charged by kilogram. I ordered a frozen turkey that was supposed to weight 9-11kg. I showed up to pickup my order and was informed that they did not have one in the size I had ordered, and they had substituted it with the next size down. I was told at this time that I would only be charged for the size turkey I was receiving 7-9kg, and it stated on my receipt the amount I was being charged. When I checked my bank statement, I had a hold put on funds as if I was receiving the larger turkey. These are sold by the kilogram. How can they charge me for a turkey by weight that they didn't even have, who's creative billing weight was this. Because I paid by visa debit, the payment was removed immediately from my account, and now have to wait several days for the refund of the overcharged amount. This whole ordeal seems like an invitation to fraud.
