90% OF CHICKS DIG IT
great by pricey
I think the quality of my food is ok; however, the selection of the food could not be found for some groceries i require so in order to make that minimum order; I had to order other random things to make up to $100 in order to use the $25 off. I think i may rather stick to Walmart or Metro's online grocery as I don't seem to have that kind of issue there. The delivery was very smooth as I received a call ahead of time but I find Sobey's overall pricey so not really my cup of tea.
Good first online grocery home delivery experience
I had the opportunity to try Sobeys' Voilà online grocery home delivery service. In the middle of COVID-19, I had been meaning to order groceries online, and I finally did it with Voilà. The whole experience was both pleasant and easy.
I signed-up on their website, and scrolled through the online grocery store. Eager to benefit from deals and specials, I was happy to find a section called “Sales” which included reduced items you would normally see on a weekly flyer, from cauliflower to peanut butter. After adding all items I needed to my cart, I had to select a delivery time. I was offered 1-hour time slots, from 6am until 11pm. All were available for next-day delivery, and so I selected 10am-11am. There is a flat fee of $7.99 for deliveries (read $8) which I thought was excessive. The website did not lag at all, nor had I any kind of technical issues.
On the next day, I received a call at 9:50am. The delivery driver told me that he would be there in 10 minutes. Two delivery persons brought all my bags to my door. Everything was there. All items were fresh. They even packed “dangerous items” that could leak in additional plastic bags, which was very thoughtful, but terrible for the environment. I was very happy I didn’t have to carry the 6-packs of drinks all the way from the store to my home.
I will reuse this service for sure. Hopefully delivery fees will be lowered, and there will be an alternative to too many plastic bags.
Please note that I received a discount as part of a Product Review Club offer.
Excellent Service
Ordering online was easy! The selection of products is fantastic and I was especially excited to see Farm Boy brand items (which I love!). I had no problem getting the delivery slot that I wanted and the one-hour bracket is very reasonable and easy to plan around. The delivery person called to see if we could accept delivery a little early as he was in the neighbourhood. That worked for us! The driver was friendly and helpful. We were very pleased with the whole experience. Prices are comparable to Sobeys stores - a little higher than discount grocers but pretty much what we're used to seeing at the major retailers.
Pricing is not competitive and selection is poor
I've been using online services to order groceries for the last 2 years so this is not a new process to me. I typically use it to order heavier/bulk items (like quinoa, cereal, etc.) and pantry/dry goods (like chicken broth, nuts, etc.) since these are the items that are the worst to carry when you live in a condo with no car. Since I live in an extremely accessible area for grocery shopping - I have 3 within a 10 min walking distance, I prefer to get my fresh foods in person. It also gives me a chance to check out the sales.
I found it very hard to build a cart over $100 with Voila for Sobeys between their poor selection and average prices. The selection is extremely generic and I can typically buy something cheaper elsewhere. The $7.99 delivery fee is a bit steep as well. I believe Instacart only charges $3.99 AND they have a wider selection since they partner with many stores. I find it hard to shop for fresh food also because of the expiry dates & inability to see the quality myself. With Instacart, I have the ability to make notes like "please pick raw bananas".
I received a discount voucher in exchange for an honest review. I did not finalize my purchase since I found it really hard to built a cart with $100 worth of groceries (it's a lot for a single person and I prefer to diversify my purchases such as at farmer's markets to support local or other grocery stores with wider selections)
Get groceries delivered anywhere !
I would recommend delivery by Voila (Sobeys). It's easy, hassle-free and saves time. You can get the same stuff you purchase every week in your nearby grocery store. The only difference is you don't have to stand in queue and delivery can be made as per your convenient time. I am satisfied with their service. Moreover, I got a 25$ discount as part of product review offer...
However, there is no way to price-match with other grocery stores. Also, the expiry date of certain items is 20 days which is a big down.
Amazing service
Great service by Sobeys, products were fresh, great quality and nothing was missing. Delivery was precise, right on time and all perfectly packed. I used 25$ coupon from Chick Advisor on 100$ grocery. Also thinking about very low delivery fee compared to other similar service it was simply amazing. Will use it again since I love Sobeys and no need to do go and line up and have the comfort of great products directly at my door.
Not the best way to get my groceries
I have been online ordering/click-and-collecting my groceries for years from various stores. I was excited to try a new one. But I was not impressed.
Cons: There was no way to view their flyer on the ordering site to see what was on special. Some basic things were unavailable (such as bananas), the delivery fee ($7.99) seems high since I can click-and-collect for no charge and often get offers for free delivery form other stores. There was no option to leave a message for the person who was selecting my food. I was given a MASSIVE melon, but only wanted a small one, which I would have specified if there was somewhere to leave a message. Expiry dates were shorter than I would have preferred.
Pros: The delivery was on time and the delivery people called ahead and were friendly. All of the items I ordered were available without substitutions. My cold/frozen items were still cold/frozen.
Overall, I would not use this service again.
Thank you to the Product Review club for the discount on my first order in exchange for this honest opinion.
Great Idea!
Amid COVID-19, I know of many people who would love the convenience of this service. Rather than getting your groceries delivered from a store where people may have breathed on them or picked through them, VOILA by Sobeys packs groceries in a warehouse that is not open to the public. I think this is definitely a service that will really ease the anxieties anyone has regarding grocery shopping in a pandemic.
Online grocery shopping - not for me
I've been wanting to try the online grocery service for a while but unfortunately it's just not for me. Pros: easy ordering process (minus a few difficulties - changing delivery time etc.), very nice delivery person/timely. Cons: Most of what I buy is fresh produce and unfortunately there was a limited selection. There was no option for asparagus or sweet potatoes and several items were out of stock such as ground beef. I ended up having to do another grocery run after. I also did not like that I could not select how much produce I wanted - for example, ginger -> received a whole bag when I usually just buy one for a fraction of the cost. Same with carrots. Overall the service was very good if that's what you're looking for but I personally enjoy my grocery runs and being able to select for myself.
Excellent Service Placing and Receiving Order
I had a problem using my Discount Voucher but Customer Service helped me quickly and completed my Order with me.
Delivery was right on time and very efficient.
I would recommend this service to others.
