I thought the content regarding stocks was better and much more in depth in the first movie. This one is definitely more about the plot and the relationships btw the main characters. Shia LaBoeuf is such a good actor and it really showed in this movie.
I enjoyed this movie. I found the plot to be very exciting and the 3 lead actors were excellent. I didn't think it was as cheesy as the previous reviewers (I also can't recall a ghost in the bathroom scene...when did that happen??), but I definitely thought they should have cut out the final scene, that was the only cheesy part I can remember.
I didn't see the original film but I did hear it was better. My only real beef with this film was all the jargon that they used at the beginning, I found it a bit difficult to follow.
I actually enjoyed the movie. Apart from all the cheese described in the previos review, I thought the director used some clever tricks and metaphores - i.e. bubbles flying away and some of them popping, the skyline aka graphs, the devil eating itself painting. I thought the movie, and especially the speech that Michael Douglas's gave on greed, made sense in light of the recent financial crisis. Good timing for this movie - if there wasn't a crisis - then all the cheese would have been much more evident and nauseating
This is probably most thrilling for those who watched the original Wall Street back in '87 because it's a continuation of that story. Corrupt Wall Street bankers wreak havoc in the markets and at home with a sprinkling of drama and a surprising amount of cheese. There were some moments that were so corny the audience was laughing out loud. I was surprised how much cheese made the final cut. The ghost in the bathroom incident was snort-worthy.
Aside from that, I actually enjoyed this because Michael Douglas is amazing and even though I hadn't seen the original, the story was compelling. Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan were great together. I'm actually a bit in love with Shia LaBeouf now. Call me?
