I usually steer clear of the non-fiction isles altogether when I visit the bookstore. I’m more into fiction because I can usually get lost in the story and it’s nice to escape the toils of everyday life into an artificial world that doesn’t exist. But this one had me hooked. The story made me cry and I couldn’t put this book down.
It is a story of personal redemption but it is not presented in a "smarmy, look what I did" kind of way. Strayed is brutally honest about her own shortcomings, fears, and weaknesses. She provides details about her life involving men, drugs, pregnancy, and other things which I found incredibly revealing and I admired her for the courage to do so especially knowing that her own children would likely read the book someday.
This is a fantastic must read book!
"Wild" est un livre intéressant, l'expérience d'une quête intérieure et d'un dépassement de soi. J'ai vraiment aimé ainsi que le film qui a été adapté du roman. Excellent divertissement qui nous amène au plus profond de soi.
Wild was an incredible story. I applaud the drive, determination and courage to embark on such a voyage. It was really interesting to hear about the challenges in Cheryl's life and her thoughts and feelings as she set off on her quest. Great read.
"Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" (2012) is a great read. You should read it if you are: a woman, needing a vacation, needing to be alone, want to find "yourself", went through something traumatic, or need inspiration. It's the autobiographical story of when Cheryl Strayed was 26 and spent months hiking this big trail that goes up practically all of California and Oregon. You feel like you're there too, just not doing all the work and instead sipping an herbal tea. It's engrossing wanting to know what happens to her all alone. She meets a lot of people (some good, some bad), encounters wildlife, goes up against nature, and reflects on her past. Her past includes struggles like divorced parents, a unique upbringing, the loss of her mother to cancer (in my opinion is what imploded Cheryl's core being), infidelity, her own divorce, lack of family, and even heroin addiction. It has it all, and a few shocking moments. Oh, Oprah thinks it's awesome too, it's a Book Club 2.0 read. It's also a movie coming out soon, the previews are on tv now where Reese Witherspoon plays Cheryl and a few people have suggested she will get awards for this role.
