Stuck in a contract for two years - worst decision ever

I signed up pretty excited as the circuit wasn't limited to fixed times to start. My job situation changed unexpectedly and my hours and travel times, as well as their hours being so extremely limited I wasnt able to make it before closing times for weeks on end. I spoke to the owner who is pleasant enough but there was only a blanket statement that lots of people have the same situation and no there is no option but to buy out the whole contract, or face legal action. There is no option to switch to drop in or fewer months at all. The attitude was just - thats your problem. The equipment also is tearing and worn. Staff is for the most part nice but one instructor in particular is extremely rude and I tried to avoid going the days she was there initially when I could still make it. The workout is finite even though the ‘many options’ are touted and I was getting bored within the third month but would have just continued just to get some excercise. Now I just regret signing up and see no way out without facing legal action. I hope you think very carefully before signing with this company.

    No accountability on overcharging

They will auto-renew your membership without letting you know and then make you still have 30 days from the beginning of the next month when you request to cancel, isn't that why you sign up for a certain amount of months? Not to be charged for extra months that you are not even aware of. There hours are also very difficult to work within. Be cautious before signing a contract! They charged me for 9 months beyond the 12 months and would do nothing about it and then said I had to pay for the next month even though I had given them notice of wanting to cancel. I am taking them to BBB. I went to Abbotsford location.

I like the concept of 30-minute hit; I truly do; however their hours are S#&%! The majority of the locations in Vancouver's lower mainland only open in the afternoon throughout the week, and in the mornings 3 times a week and Saturdays. They close for the lunch hour, which is basically the time most people have a break from their work schedule to work out. THEN they close super early! Most close at 8, if that! For me, my work schedule is very consuming, which leaves me absolutely no time to visit this gym.

If your hours work well with their crap hours, then I would highly suggest the gym! Just ensure that the one you would typically go to has the hours you prefer.

The workout, generally, is really awesome! I bet you anything if I was a regular, I would lose 10-20 lbs in a month! The drills are designed to make you push yourself to your full potential, which, in turn, makes you feel the burn the next day! (For me, on the same day!)

The gym I highly recommend: Richmond location
Why? Celia, the main lady there, is fantastic! She really knows how to work you to your core.

The gym I was disappointed in: Kerrisdale location
Why? The lady, I don't know her name, seems really lazy. She didn't seem to have any interest in pushing me while I was there and kept using her phone when she could have, rather, been helping everyone in their circuit. Not to say that she didn't come around once in a while, but she just... couldn't hold a candle to Celia.

So I started this in February of this year. I initially started because I moved to fort St. John, which is a small city north of B.C. As you can imagine there wasn't a lot to do up there so I joined and I loved it! The staff was motivational and super friendly. You could tell they really love their job. Once I moved back I went to the surrey location and was less than happy, but I was contacted by the surrey owner and she was amazing. I definitely recommend this program. It's a full body work out with the
Convenience of being done in half an hour. The membership varies from $60-$30.

The work out literally takes all of 30 minutes, so leaves plenty of time for me to get home and make dinner! The premise is that you spend 2 minutes at each station "boxing" with gloves, alternating between upper body and lower body. There are 12 stations in total, with 2 that work on your abs. There's a short rest (like 20 seconds) between each station. The work out is great after a rough day at work where you literally just want to "hit" something to let off some steam. It's a great cardio work out. The instructors at my location are great, very personable and encouraging, and more importantly they will push you! I liked that during my 1 week trial, there was no pressure to buy a membership.

Here are my "negatives". Like Curves the concept is do your 30 minutes and get out. There's no additional equipment (or room) for weight lifting, or more ab work etc., that most gyms have. I'm at the Vancouver location (Clark and 2nd) which is in an industrial area, in what looks like a garage. In the summer, it's hot and stuffy (no air con) and in the winter, it's freezing (no heat).... all this aside, yes, I still enjoy coming here because I love the boxing aspect of it. They are not opened 7 days a week, depending on the location. Closed Sundays. And the hours are usually in the morning and after work, so not really good if you work shift work.

Pricing: it's not the cheapest around. I pay about $65 per month including taxes.

I've been a member for almost one year (joined Sept. 2011) and visit about 2-3 times a week. I rotate this work out with other work outs such as Zumba, an outdoor bootcamp class now and then, plus my daily walks to keep things interesting.
