I wanted to make a drastic change from super long hair to just under my chin. When I wanted a consultation, they were very professional and knowledgeable about what I described and when I got my hair cut by a different stylist (my original consultation stylist went away for a month!), she did an amazing job!

With 3 floors of space to work with an excellent service, I'm looking forward to my next appointment!

I've been looking for someone who can highlight my hair properly for years. I "broke off" with my regular stylist a while back and have been on the hunt ever since. There's barely an upscale salon in Yorkville that I haven't tried - and HATED! Hair included.

Anyway, I finally decided to venture out of Yorkville and took the subway to Queen West - and Civello. I had read a review that said Alana was a great colorist, especially at "natural, fine" highlights. I have very fine hair, and lots of it. It's naturally a dirty blonde and I like to get it brightened up as subtly as possible. To do it properly takes a lot of work and time. But Alana was great. She was friendly and fun to talk to without being overly chatty. If convo ran out, it wasn't awkward - she seems too comfortable in her own skin for that. She was warm AND cool ... plus I loved her tattoos.

We decided on doing my whole head because it had been so long. She was amazingly fast considering all the foils she had to put in. But I was also impressed with how neat it looked. I mean, since when can a girl look half decent with her hair covered in folded tin foil? Just saying.

The end result is this: they're the best highlights I've ever had! Natural, soft, brightened but not brassy. Two tones keep it contemporary without looking striped. I'm more satisfied with this shade than I've been in a very looooong time. Plus - yes - I did get a quick, relaxing massage while the color was setting. There was even a cutie wandering around with handcream asking if we wanted hand massages. I passed but the other clients seemed to enjoy it very much. It looks like the kind of place you can get spoiled quite easily.

Bottom line - I've got a new highlight BFF. I'm even going to book a cut with a stylist Alana recommended. Will keep y'all posted.

Overall the place has a great energy. It's trendy and busy with a wide variety of clients. All the staff - and there are a lot of people working here - were so friendly and polite. It's well organized, considering it's so large, and - as I said - I'm thrilled with what Alana did. It would get a 5 - except that it's not really a "chi-chi" place - it's funkier than that. Plus they have all the latest magazines - and more than one copy to go around. Meaning you don't have to get stuck reading about what Gwynneth wore to Fall Fashion Week ... in 2010. So ... yay!

I have tried out all the Civello salons in the city, and have found that the Queen Street location wins every time. The ambience is relaxed, and the stylists and colourists are really well trained. I've been seeing my colourist, Jordin, for a good five years now and she absolutely rocks. No matter how insane my requests - ("So...can you take me from brunette to blonde TODAY?!!!" or "I think I'd like to try blue streaks"), Jordin has always been able to accomodate my silly whims with the highest level of skill and taste.

I believe Evelyn and Charles has great staff and are very curtious. Some stylists maybe over priced but you have to understand that this is a art for them, not just a hobby. They take pride in what they do, and there needs to be value to that $$

Tailor (Queen St. location) is amazing!!! You get a great cut EVERY time!! The price of the cut is a little steep - BUT you get a complementary massage!!! It doesn't get any better!!!

This place is great for haircuts. My cut with a medium range stylist was about $60 and I loved the results. I've been here for color too, and maybe it was just that particular stylist, but I wasn't crazy about the results. Partial highlights are around $80-$100 for a medium range stylist. The salon itself is pretty trendy/cool and you get a free neck and back aromatherapy massage in your chair with each service. They also offer a complimentary makeup application. I'll definitely go back there for a haircut (sorry, i forget the name of the stylist I liked),and i'll probably try a color again... with someone else.
