The price is too high for a cut or trim which is the same price $75.00. but I go because my hairstylist does it like no other.
Today I had the most terrible experience I could have ever imagined at Donato Square One. To begin I am 19 year old girl with long dark brown hair and I just wanted some simple highlights for summer. I booked an appointment with Nicola. This was my first mistake. After being repeatedly told highlights are $160, I decided it would be a good option. Nicole is a senior colourist and the highest level of colourist at Donato. After explaining that I want medium brown put in my hair she agreed and said it wouldn't be a problem to do. She began highlighting and after 40 minutes and a minimal foils sat me under the dryer. Then had an assistant wash and tone my hair. I was then sent over for a stylist to blow dry my hair (which is an additional cost). I started to see my hair dry and did not like the result. The highlights were NOT caramel but a gross orange. I said I didn't like the highlights and was pretty much told that I was out of luck. When my hair was all dry I went to the front to pay and got the shock of my life. MY BILL WAS 375 DOLLARS!!!!!! When I asked why I was given a lot of trouble. All I wanted to know was the break down of cost. I was repeatedly told that there was nothing I could do and I had to pay. I was bullied and pressured into paying. I barely had half a head of highlights. As soon as I left I called my mom hysterically CRYING. She then called the salon to talk to a manager and once again they told her that the manager was unreachable but that she could leave a message. The manager never got back to her but the receptionist said that the toner was an additional cost and the highlights were more then full head. DEFINITELY NOT. These people have terrible customer service, lie and misinform clients about the price of services. They pressure you into paying after the service even if the service does not meet your standards. If you want to be treated like garbage and have a "half-ass" service then go to Donato! Enjoy their condescending attitude and fraudulent prices!! Maybe you'll get ripped off too!!! I called my credit card company and they said that the way I was deceived qualifies as fraud so I can't wait to file a formal police report. AND I am not the first person this has happened to.... After this experience I found others that had the same thing happen to them.
I was very unhappy with my last appt at Donato's at Square One. I had my hair cut and highlighted which cost me $174.00. The highlights were fine but the cut wasn't perfected. After a few days, I decided that the bottom part only on the sides were still a little heavy and needed to be tapered a little more. The top, bangs and back were fine. When I went back to ask if they could fix it, the stylist decided I needed to rebook and pay again to get it fixed. Unbelievable! To pay for only 10 minutes to fix it? This is not customer service and not what I would have expected from a salon after being charged that amount! Donato is not one I would recommend.
I had been going to this salon for over 10 years. I loved my original Hair Stylist and Color Technician. They had left 3 years ago, so I went with 2 new people. I love my haircuts so I don't have any complaints about that. I get what I ask for. My hair color is always done very nicely too, but the lady who colors my hair has become very moody over the past year. In fact, the last time I was there, I was completely shocked at her attitude. She put me down. She totally spoke her mind and stated exactly what she thought of me. What? I never asked for her opinion. I didn't know she felt that way. I was left speechless. I was sitting there with haircolor on my hair as she was saying this to me. The worst part was that I didn't feel comfortable speaking up for myself as I was so worried she was going to ruin the color. As the color was processing, I also saw her pointing to me and talking about me to another stylist. I was horrified. I just wanted to get the heck out of there. I guess she realized she had taken it too far and as a result, she started to back-track and tried to flatter me and give me compliments. She was too late. The damage had already been done.
Now, I need to say, that I wasn't one of those over-demanding clients. I am very easy to please. I had regular appointments and I tipped very well. All I expect out of a stylist is polite conversation, that is it.
I noticed Salon Donato now has a sign on the washroom doors. It states that if you are unhappy with your stylist, you have every right to choose a new one without any hard feelings. They must have been getting a lot of complaints for that sign to go up.
The lady who colored my hair is named Nicola. She is very skilled and talented, however her moodiness and lack of sensitivity towards others doesn't make it worth it. It costs a lot to go to this salon, so I expect nice treatment.
I didn't bother to complain to the management, as Nicola has a very good reputation due to her skills. I figure after a few months have passed, she will get the point that she's lost a very loyal customer.
let me start by saying that my friends and family all agree, that i am any businesses worst nightmare. i have high expectations that are usually never met and i am not afraid to speak up. i have been to many salons and had a mix of experiences, from bad to ugly to mediocre at best. i went to donato for the first time last week and had my hair coloured by Germaine and cut by Luigie (hope i got spelling right), both were super amazing. Germaine suggested i go from being a brunette to a fierce red head and let me tell you i was leary. I have always been a brunette and would have never dreamed of making such a huge change. I absolutely LOVE it, i have never had so many compliments. I look in the mirror and take a second look, it is so dramatic. I recommend everyone and anyone to see Germaine, he is amazing! If you are looking for a change, this is the place i recommend you go. everyone was very cool, the place is hopping busy so if you are into a trendy, upbeat place this is for you. some people may say it is expensive, but i think you get what you pay for.
I went for the hair cut at Donato (Squareone )and my recommendation would be to ask for Loucas as hair stylist. He takes time to explain the hair style and is an expert in his work. He is also the instructor for the new talent at Donato.
Great Stylist and Great work am really happy.
Can't believe some of the reviews -- I love Donato! Been there 4 times now and my stylists Rock! I see Kyle for my cut and Meg for my colour. They are both really down to earth, cool and edgy. I never know what i want, but they make deciding easy (and, yes, I will confess that I am not the easiest to please). I love that they are NOT has-been hairdressers (many bad first time salon experiences as you can read) - they are young, fun and know what's hot and what's not. I have finally found the stylists and salon for me and I couldn't be happier. And yes, the price is more than what you pay at some other salons, but in my opinion worth every penny. i would rather pay more and leave happy than pay less and get average. Just me :)
LOUSE-Y experience! Spent big bucks for a cut with the 'artistic' stylist. I had high expectations especially since I paid $90 for this last-minute 'design' cut (unfortunately, had to resched my regular stylist out and was crazy desperate). Not only did I receive a mediocre 'first-choice-like' cut, I'm 99.9% certain she gave me HEAD LICE. I should have known better since she didn't pull a comb out of a barbicide cylinder to detangle/comb my hair...instead she used her 1990's brown brush to detangle and blow dry/'style' which she got from her nasty drawer. (Who does that?). I feel partially responsible for not mitigating the situation and saying STOP you dirty SOB, wash your utensils, and practice some common sense hygiene, especially in an over crowded salon.....
DONATO, you've gone too far. No hair-cutting place should be considered a spa/salon if health and safety standards are blatantly questionable! And don't even get me started with their massage spa. Out of the 3 experiences I've had there, 2 were good and my third and last experience involved me waiting 25-minutes for the masseuse. No respectable spa makes the next client suffer from the previous client's tardiness. Yes, their excuse was that the client prior was late! Too bad, so sad for them. Again, no common sense here...
Do yourself and favour and stay away from this salon. When I first arrived there I thought that maybe I was invisible. There was a man and woman standing behind the counter talking, totally ignoring me. I had to yoo! hoo! them to get them to notice I was there. The guy takes me to the back, long walk! GIves me a robe, tells me to put my things in a locker, including the sweater I was wearing. He didnt offer me a private room to dress in!! All he said was, dont worry, I wont look. I had to remove my sweater in front of everyone in the back at the sinks!! Thank god I had a little camisole under my sweater but still very uncomfortable. Than he takes meto a chair and says my colourist will be right with me. The guy came, didnt even spend 2 seconds asking what I wanted. I said I wanted blond highlites, he just said"Ok I will be right back with the colour". Absolutely No Consultation whatsoever!! Threw the foils in in about 10 minutes than went to the girl beside me and started working on her. 15 minutes later a different person told me sit in a different chair, sat there for 5 minutes. Buzzer went off than that girl told me to come to the sink. Never did see the colourist again. SHe had me put my head back to wash my hair. Left me there for about 5 minutes and went god knows where. Came back and rushed through the wash. She than sent me across the salon again to another station where another girl came and cut my hair. At this point I was smart enough to say "just a trim please" After insulting the condition of my hair (I think just to sell some product to me) she spent all of about 10 minutes on me. She than shook my hand, said nice to meet you...bye! That was it! I had to find my way back to the locker to get my stuff and find a place to change back into my sweater that was more private than the sink room. The colourist never came to ask me how I like my highlites, the girl who cut my hair never said anything either. I just couldnt wait to get the hell out of there. When I went to pay for this experience, it was very confusing. There were 2 counters, lots of staff and no one seemed to care to direct you to where to pay. I had to ask where to pay and all the guy did was point to the other counter where there were 3 young girls there just talking to each other. I said "Can I please pay here?" She said "Yea, whats your phone #?" They dont use your name, they use your phone number!! I felt like I was on an assembly line and they wanted me out as fast as possible!!! There are too many people working there to make it feel like you get the attention you deserve, especially for the amount you pay! I was done in an hour and a half!! $250.00!! And hair that doesnt look any better than if I went to a place for $100.
My friend has always had great hair and after losing my stylist (he changed salons too many times) I decided to go to her stylist. My stylist had been cutting my hair for 5 years and I was so nervous about going to someone new, not to mention paying the price that my gf pays. But I was desperate. I went to see Hucy at Donato in Sq One. First let me start by saying, you will have confidence in her just by looking at her. She is gorgeous and has beautiful hair too! When we talked about what we were going to do with my hair she offered my three suggestions and then asked me which one I felt more comfortable with. Then she said she noticed tha I seemed nervous and she promised not to do anything that will take me outside of my comfort zone. This was a first for me. My old hairstylist just used to do whatever he wanted with my hair and most of the time i got the same thing over and over. Anyway, when my hair was done, I felt great. Hucy had managed to give me a change without chopping all my hair off. She even showed me how to do my hair as quick as possible. Great service, and very proffessional! It cost me $95 to get a haircut with her which is a jump from the $50 i used to pay but she is worth it. When i left i felt like I had made a new friend!
