36% OF CHICKS DIG IT
My review is to educate other mothers who use the child minding -steer clear- if your child is not old enough to have a voice do not even consider using them as an option. I am specifically talking about the coxwell and gerrard location. One staff member had a chip on her shoulder annoyed at the crying baby she was with that wouldn't settle down, I asked why don't you go get her mother and she said we can't she is an instructor here. I told her if my baby cries like that get me immediately. I stayed for 10 min to see how my 5 month old would adjust in the circle of neglect and since she was as happy as a clam playing by herself I went for a workout. I popped my head in 20 min later to let them know I would be in an office speaking with a sales person , should they need me and couldn't see me in the cardio area. At that point my daughter was still doing well in the exercauser and had a few little boys surrounding her. I come to pick her up 10 min later and she was being tossed into the swing with tears streaming down her face and was wailing. I have only seen tears one other time on my childs face, clearly the other little boys were being too rough with her and she was not being supervised. Sometimes accidents happen by why was I not notified, she took the time to walk to the back of the room to plop her in a swing it would have been the same distance to walk to where the offices were. Bottom line don't use their child mining. Otherwise the gym is great, especially the selection of classes is incredible!
I have been a member for 6 years and with more locations being added, I feel like Goodlife has become even better! Extreme Fitness was bought and taken over by Goodlife and I love going to the former Extreme Fitness locations, such as the Dunfield (Yonge & Eglinton) and the Madison Centre (Yonge & Sheppard). These locations tend to be a lot bigger, have more (updated) equipment, newish locker rooms, actual swimming pools, dry sauna rooms, and consistent towel service. I haven't taken too many classes provided by Goodlife but most are free and anybody can join in. Each location is different and managed according to the demographics. I know at the Madison Centre, there tends to be more younger staff and trainers, because that is mostly what the residents of North York prefer and are similar to (young professionals). If you go outside of the city, like at Dufferin & Finch, there tends to be more older gym-goers. Personally, I don't really care to become friendly with the staff and trainers, unless I need them for something. I keep to myself because I have my own gym routine and nobody really bothers me. Goodlife overall is easily accessible (so many locations all over Toronto), mostly clean, updated, and a worthy investment to make!
I go to the Kingsmill location and have been a member there for roughly 5 years. It used to be okay even though it wasn't the nicest facility it was accessible through Islington subway station and I could get my workouts done In peace. Now it is awful and I am seriously considering cancelling my membership, most of the staff there are just the worst. I have been experiencing passive aggressive harassment from a few select trainers for no good reason and they are all off in their own worlds. I can remember an instance where one of the newer female trainers was leaning over from one of the staff offices blatantly staring at me when I needed a towel, a instructor who does not do any work behind the desk eventually gave me one but then the girl who was staring jumps up and all of a sudden asks my friend for a towel.. its ridiculous these people are supposed to be professional and yet are so miserable and sour they cant even manage to do their jobs properly.. I am seriously pissed off because I come to the gym to workout and leave no drama necessary and keep getting strange glares and hovering from people who I have never even exchanged words with..
Goodlife WAS a great gym but has gone downhill in the recent years.
Ya I've heard about those "Peeping Tom" incidents - they occurred at the Mt Pleasant & Davisville location. Apparently female and MALE cleaning staff walked into the women's shower room unannounced while women were naked, showering. Shocked the hell outta me that this could even happen - what a major violation. Disgusting. I hope Management is doing something about this.
Ladies, if you go to the Goodlife at Mt Pleasant & Davisville please be careful when you're in the showers or don't even go at all - switch locations if you can.
heard thru the grapevine that mgmt responsiveness to major issues with peeping tom in the women's shower poor! girlfriends - be wary of the door that leads to the common laundry room when you are in the shower room! access is from the laundry room and anyone can be peeking if the door is slightly ajar. what a shame because classes and instructurs great....
I signed up for Goodlife about 2 years ago, and a few friends have signed up since based on my thoughts about the gym.
I was really hesitant to sign the contract initially because of everything I have heard from everyone about how it's some big scam. The rep who helped me with the contract was actually very honest about contract stipulations, so I found that helped me make a decision. Plus, even though they occasionally rush you through the signing (not me, but I've seen it happen to other people), make sure you read the contract fully and there's really nothing too bizarre or unfair about it.
The only downside is that they have to take the money from a bank account rather than a credit card. It would be nice to collect points...
I've been going to the Bloor Park location for the entire time I've had my membership. The staff are alright - hit or miss, as some are super friendly and some are people you'd rather avoid. The classes are at fairly convenient times, and it's a big location so there are usually quite a few free machines.
The winter hours aren't the best (closed at 9 on Fridays), but aside from that, no major qualms.
Goodlife fitness is a legit gym where you can go work out, or do some classes like yoga, body pump, etc. I do think the contracts they set up is annoying, like how you have to pay a cancellation fee if you were to cancel within a year, etc. but that's standard. I find that the facility is pretty good and the workout equipments are relatively new and decent. I would complain though, that the one in Toronto I used to (Woodbine and Steeles) would ALWAYS play the food network on the big screen tv's?!?!?! What is up with that? I honestly don't enjoy doing cardio while salivating at the steak on the screen. It's like they're trying to torture us!
I joined the Mt Pleasant and Davisville Goodlife and have had a horrible experience. Twice they went into my bank account and withdrew money away from the terms I signed up for. Trying to resolve the banking issues was a HUGE nightmare. The women's showers are dirty and smell like mould. The gym is overpacked and the customer service is awful. I will never recommend a Goodlife.
I have been going to the 55 Bloor St West location and I hate it. This gym is horribly busy, under equiped and the staff rude. They tricked me into buying a year membership and now they won't let me cancel. They basically stole my money. I am so upset that I have reported them to the better business bureau and I'm warning all my friends. This company has no problem taking your money but their "policies" prevent them from provided decent service. Be wise, don't make the same mistake I did.
I have been a member of this gym for almost three years now. It is a wonderful gym. It is very large, it has tons of cardio machines, you never have to wait for a cardio machine. It was renovated a year or so ago so a lot of the machines and weights are newer and in great condition. The gym is always clean, there is always staff around to help if you need something, there are plenty of free weights and weight machines as well. If you dont like the co-ed experience, there is also a smaller female-only area just off the ladies change room. The Les Mills classes are great, the trainers are helpful and I have never been over charged for anything there. They have free childminding, spin classes, you name it!
The only downfall about this gym, in my opinion, is there is no pool, steam room or running track. If it had that, it would be perfect!
I highly recommend this facility.
